11  Re: Kinetic Koture- Trash Fashion (image heavy) in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by cornie on: November 08, 2010 02:01:07 PM
here's more on my dresses.  the target dress was inspired by a bag i saw on craftster.  i decided to use both sides of the target bags for some interest (right side out, inside out).

to avoid zippers, and for added flare, i added grommets and laced up the back with rope.

the kimono styled belt is made with fused black trash bags.

i also used the black trash bags to make the second dress and the bolero. i found some window screen and painstakingly attached it to the bolero--it was one of those ideas that one gets when one is falling asleep.  i knew i MUST MAKE IT HAPPEN.

12  Re: Lets See Pics of Tattoos You Designed! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by cornie on: November 06, 2010 05:34:08 AM
my first two tattoos were on the other now closed thread Reply #5098.  i have since gotten 4 more.

i got my third china-themed tattoo after i returned from the middle country.  i obsessively took photos of the lotus flowers in the garden outside my apartment.  when i got back stateside, i decided i needed them with me.
this is the original photo i took

and the tattoo, done by teri at her house.

theeeeen, my best friend blue.laroo and i got matching tattoos.  arent we saps? yes.  yes, we are.

it's a panda paw print.  she came to visit me after my dad died when i was living in china and it really meant the world to me.

i dont have a recent photo of it...

also in china, i met my boyfriend.  he's swiss.  after a year apart, we decided to move me to his flat in lausanne.  before i left california, i wanted some work done.  i got two tattoos--a california brown pelican....

and a california poppy

both were picked for sentimental reasons.

and now, here i am in switzerland, broke, and wanting more.... hahaha.

13  whoooooo am i? in Halloween Costumes by cornie on: November 03, 2010 09:49:30 AM
why, im an owl Smiley

the dress and wings are made from thrifted sheets and pillow cases.

i made the mask based on an owl i randomly happened upon--he's the reason why i made the costume.  i thought he was rad.

i wrote more about my ensemble in the costume contest zone....

14  owl costume: what a hoot! in Halloween Costumes by cornie on: November 02, 2010 02:59:24 AM
i had a great time making this costume...! i recently moved to europe and it's been a tricky process as i gave away and sold most of my things before i left california.  my boyfriend's mom gave me her spare sewing machine and it reinvigorated my world! this costume took some time because the new-to-me machine is different than the ol' trusty machine i knew so well.  we got to know each other through making this costume.

i went to the salvation army (i was SO THRILLED to find one!!) and bought a dress on the cheap to chop up and use as my foundation.  i also got sheets and pillow cases to cut and shape into the feathers and wings.

action shot!

the legwarmers on my arms and stockings and shoes were already members of my wardrobe.

for the wings, i was inspired by a photo of a owl costume for a baby.  i made three newspaper templates and cut them out of the pillow cases.

then i fit them to my shoulder, pressed them, and sewed them together.

i later joined the wings to the dress itself

the mask is paper mache.  as i love owls, i was looking at owl photos on the internet and found my muse.  i used foil to make a mold of my face and went on from there.

i also did some make up because let's face it, wearing a mask All the Time is not easy to do.  i wanted to still look like an owl even while sporting the mask on my head

bonus! owl and the pussycat!
while i was taking the photos, a kitty cat stopped by to see me.  he was scared of the mask and ran away right after i had time to snap this quick shot. im looking into the sun and blinding myself. whoopsie.

15  Re: Your Best Pumpkin Recipes!! in Recipes and Cooking Tips by cornie on: October 31, 2010 07:31:23 AM
i have two to contribute! one is a favourite tried and true cookie recipe, and the other was something i just made the other night for a dinner party and it turned out quite splendidly.

peanut butter chocolate pumpkin cookies
combine ingredients as follows
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/2 tsp bkg powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp bkg soda
  • 15 ounce can pumpkin
  • cinnamon and nutmeg to taste
  • peanut butter chips
  • choc'late chips
  • 4 cups flour

Bake about 12 (11 - 14) minutes at 375

parmesan pumpkin pasta
my disclaimer is im a follow-your-gut cook.  i do not have exact measurements.

this summer, i moved to switzerland.  i am not able to get canned pumpkin so i made my own.  we have a tiny oven so i just sliced up a medium sized pumpkin, after cleaning up the guts, and baked it until soft.  then i pureed it.  perfect.

i caramelized some onions and then added the pumpkin to the pan.  i added curry powder, ginger, and fresh nutmeg.  i let the goo reduce even more as i boiled some spinach tortellini.  i folded in some cream (not too much), some freshly grated parmesan cheese, and some vegetarian sausage i had cooked and sliced earlier.  i turned off the heat, drained the noodles, and then combined the pasta with the pumpkin sauce.  tasty! tasty!

you can get a large version at my flickr site.

obviously it needs to be cleaned up a bit.  that you can do that when you're carving.  this will at least give you the basic outline of what you want Smiley
