2  Twirliest Dress, ever! in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by Grieney on: October 23, 2008 01:03:25 PM
I made this dress for my bff's daughter, because she's in the twirly stage.

The pattern is named, of course, Twirly Dress.  I got it at JoAnns but you can get it from http://www.sewbaby.com.  It's super easy because all it's just a circle skirt sewn onto a tshirt (genius!).

I miss twirling.  Cheesy

3  Broomstick Lace Hat/Scarf (I got published!!) in Crochet: Completed Projects by Grieney on: September 18, 2008 06:33:31 AM
I'm SO excited about this, you guys! I had designed a hooded scarf for my mom and it got published in a book!

Please excuse my doofy face.  Wink  All the patterns I could find for something similar had the hood made as a rectangle and sewn together on one end so you had this pointed head.  My way eliminates the elfin point and there is no sewing involved because I don't like doing that either.  Here are some more pictures:

There's broomstick lace trim on the top and bottom edges. Let me know what you guys think!
(btw, the other patterns in the book totally rock so check them out as well)

4  Thrown Off-Center on Purpose in Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects by Grieney on: September 02, 2008 06:46:55 AM
These two were some of the hardest things I made in my pottery classes over the summer:

You start off by throwing a cylinder that's a little thicker on the top.  Wire it off the batt and bump it off-center.  Get the wheel going and compress the bottom so it is restuck to the batt, then re-center the top.  The hardest part is trying to pay attention to what you're doing to the top part and ignore the bottom part that is spinning around off-center!  I was supposed to make these into bottles, but I was getting dizzy just recentering the tops so I slacked off.   Thanks for looking!

5  Re: Craft My Wists-Summer 2008 Swap in The Swap Gallery by Grieney on: August 12, 2008 05:58:11 AM
Alrighty, I FINALLY got pictures of the wonderful things that Javede sent me!

Pair o' socks #1

Pair o' socks #2 (can you tell I loooove handmade socks?)

TWO skirts and a bag to match

The purple one is a wee bit small (blame gluten and good birthing hips) since Janin was fighting with the stupid zipper, but could any of you give that away to someone more petite? Me neither.  Grin  And I'm not good with zippers either.  Stupid zippers.  I have a plan though! I'll post the results in September after the 3 birthdays, one wedding anniversary and a baby shower are finished.  If any of you are wondering about the Kinder eggs, apparently they don't make them in the summer time.  As if! Janin promised to send me part deux when they are in stores again.  I DID get a similar chocolate yummy from the Kinder people, and the one I've already eaten bequeathed unto me a Tweety Bird on a skateboard.  Thanks for the fantastical package!!!!

Here's a couple pictures of what I sent her, since she asked:

clockwise from the top: one Amelia bag (stupid zipper!), one kit to make log cabin quilted pillow covers with the most glorious batik fabric, frosted animal crackers, blue wristlet (stupid zipper again!), Craft, Hello Kitty lunch bag (I heart $1 bins at Target), Interweave Crochet, Hello Kitty wallet with an inside flap I added to make a section for coins (yes, Javede, I did stalk your posts), a crochet hook roll and 3 hooks with polymer clay handles. Phew!

And some closer pictures of the bag,  which ended up bigger than I thought it would:

The handles are crocheted leather cord.
What an awesome swap! Thanks organizers!

6  Bridesmaid Dress Re-Do Help in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by Grieney on: August 04, 2008 11:13:54 AM
I was a bridesmaid in my brother's wedding, and the dresses were actually cute:

I would be the pasty one on the left. The only problem, and you can kind of see it in the picture, is that the sheer brown makes this weird optical illusion thing over the cream.  Kind of like when newscasters wear teeny plaid, but you can see this in person.  Is it possible to separate the cream from the brown, take the cream apart and use those pieces as a pattern for cream in a better fabric?  I'm thinking that would work, but my sewing is limited mostly to straight lines.  Wink  Any fabric suggestions?

here are the 10 I've gotten this round:

and here are the ones from Round 1:

not sure about the sashing though.  Would one of the dark greens be too dark?

Alrighty, contrary to the thought that I might have fallen off the face of the planet, here are some of the squares that I've just done (sorry for the cell phone camera shots!):

My sewing machine is travelling with me this weekend to the bf's, so more will get finished there. My block looks awesome, mimiw! Thanks!
