12  Thanksgiving Hostess Gift-with Upcycling in Thanksgiving by yelutci on: November 25, 2008 11:13:12 AM
Recycled tin can (washed of course) filled with homemade snack mix, decorated with scrapbooking left-overs and topped with a hand knit dishcloth. Wrapped up with yarn scraps and topped with a vintage acorn button. Made for the hostess of our small groups annual pre-Thanksgiving feast.

In the past I bought pretty containers for gifting snack mix, but with a tighter budget I'll be Recycling this idea for Christmas gifts, too.

Thanks for the kind feed back. Here's my base recipe, straight from Allrecipes.com. I often change up the nuts &/or cereals depending on what's on sale. I also like to add pretzels. It's always a big hit, and a great gift to snack on, I especially like to give it to those who have long drives around the holidays.
INGREDIENTS
3 quarts popped popcorn (1 cup un-popped)
4 cups Cheerios cereal
4 cups Corn or Rice Chex cereal
2 cups salted peanuts ( I use almonds)
1 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup corn syrup
1/4 cup butter or margarine
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon baking soda (I've occasionally forgotten Undecided to add this & it still worked)

DIRECTIONS
In a large greased roasting pan, combine popcorn, cereal and peanuts. In a large saucepan, combine brown sugar, corn syrup and butter; bring to a rolling boil. Boil for 6 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat; quickly stir in vanilla and baking soda until mixture is light and foamy. Immediately pour over popcorn mixture; mix well. Bake, uncovered, at 250 degrees F for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Cool completely.

16  Buttony Bracelet in Crochet: Completed Projects by yelutci on: October 24, 2008 09:42:59 AM
I love to play with my stash of buttons. I just crocheted a chain, picking up buttons within the stitches, through the shanks, with a loop on the end to button it together.

Grin I Got my awesome package from Rikaheart!

The kids & I love all the goodies. The blue circles (recycled CDs) with Stitch are playing card holders, my favorite! I'm totally going to try make some myself. I adore the apron with the lovely vintage print; but my older daughter swiped it-I guess we'll have to share. Each of my kids loved the things made for them. Thanks again for everything Rikaheart! Kiss

20  Cold Shoulders Boucle in Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller by yelutci on: May 27, 2008 12:05:33 PM
I've had the hook, book & yarn for a year & finally got it done-pretty quick project once I got to the shell section. I added extra rows & a sc edging all around, it could still use a blocking.

I want to find some nice ribbon for the tie- I think the boucle would be to scraggley as pom-poms.
