81  Re: HPC Craftalong ~Fall Semester 2013~ *join anytime* in Craftalongs by rockmygypsysoul on: September 06, 2013 02:07:36 PM
I am on a roll today - my Thanksgiving non-wreath reminded me how nice it is to craft something for yourself sometimes (I've been doing lots of swaps which I love, love, love doing but then I forget how it's nice to make something for me, too!)

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Flying
House:  Gryffindor!
Project Name:  Owl Post Stamp
Brief Description: If you're out and about flying on your broomstick, then you will at some point (obv...iously) run into an owl going about its Owl Post business; it's important to be very careful since you never know when the owl in question is delivering a very special letter (or a very special swap package!)
Project Picture:

I'm new to stamp carving so I know it's awfully rough.  But given that it's only about an inch and a half wide from wing to wing, I'm happy!

83  The Thanksgiving Non-Wreath in Thanksgiving by rockmygypsysoul on: September 06, 2013 10:13:59 AM
Okay, so I love wreaths.  *Love* them.  But I decided to challenge myself a bit and create a non-wreath for Thanksgiving.  I have a little autumn wreath that I'll have up til probably November but then this will take over - it was a challenge partly due solely to the fact that I'm not typically a big fan of fall colors but for once I'm actually really pleased how something came out  Cheesy

In case anyone's curious, I used a wood plaque, a ribbon and fake flower, polymer clay for the leaves (and they're accented by little glitter-like flakes that are actually designed for nails), more ribbon, and pine cones

The plaque close up

The overall non-wreath (ignore the backdrop - the non-wreath will be on the door, not on our little control center)

One of the polymer clay leaves (you can see the word 'create' in there as well)

And I did the edges of my pine cones in gold glitter because, well, who doesn't love glitter?! (except my husband)

I got my package from LadysbugsandBumblebees and oh how spoiled I am!!  She claimed me for a long, lightweight scarf for my sister in law and then sent me TWO scarves made of this gorgeous yarn AND a bookmark just for me!!  (I also may steal one of the scarves...my sister-in-law will never know  Wink

Seriously - how adorable is that button?!  I love it!!

Yeah, that's my cell phone case against the yarn - match much?!  Cheesy

And my new bookmark!  And I have an Iris Johannsen (sp?) book I am reading right now that will be the new temporary home for this gem!

Thank you SO much - everything is just perfect!!  Grin

86  Charcoal and Graphite - First Tries! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by rockmygypsysoul on: August 09, 2013 07:54:32 PM
Okay, so there I am in Michael's, minding my own business, marveling at all the stuff I want, and I see a set of charcoal and pencils for $5 and I decide to give it a go despite a complete inability to make art of any kind.  I am most definitely a crafter and not an artist.

BUT we had done a little photo shoot - my husband, our two puppies, and I and I had a couple of good contrast black and white shots so I decided to try.

So this is the husband with Burton Guster (Gus for short)

and then me holding Annette Bening (we just call her Bening)

They are 11"x17" (which I didn't really think about when I was doing them) so together they're kind of huge.  But my husband insisted we hang them up so we did.

I am really very open to criticism and advice since I'm brand new to this and want to be better.  I especially struggle with Bening since she's so blonde - I have a hard time drawing that with charcoal so please advise!   Smiley

Okay, so I haven't done this swap in forever but you guys have some AMAZING offering and I'm thinking I might join in!

But first - would anyone have any interest in abstract wildflower hand-painted note cards?  I'm think a set of four, like these:

If not, that's totally okay and I can certainly find something else, lol!

Oooooh - I am intrigued!  We could do a personal swap if you would like.  Is there anything I make you could be interested in?

Pretty much anything! I am very, very open to surprises or whatever you think would be appropriate!  And I have a wist list (though sizes and stuff may be different) here: http://wists.com/rockmygypsysoul

I'm pretty new and have only worked on my puppies' pictures but here are a couple I did in charcoal and pencil (of each one with either me or my hubs - sorry the one is on its side, lol) and then one soft pastel I just finished of my boy

89  Re: Watercolor Stencil Portrait + TUTORIAL in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by rockmygypsysoul on: June 22, 2013 05:22:46 PM
This has been on my to-do list FOREVER and now that I have finally done it, I have come out of my craftster retirement (didn't really craft for a couple of years but now I am back in business!) to share these...

my baby girl, Bening

and a picture older than this tutorial!  from our wedding

I anticipate doing a million more.  Thanks so much for the awesome idea and tutorial!!

90  Re: The IT Crowd Swap R2 - GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by rockmygypsysoul on: June 10, 2010 07:26:17 AM
that quilt is AMAZING and i ADORE those Moss pens!!

BUT I received the most GLORIOUS, AMAZING, AND WONDERFUL swap package ever!!!!   BEHOLD:

and Richmond!!

They are crocheted and pixieval said they are her first crocheted dolls which is just UNBELIEVABLE!!!

They are SO flipping awesome I can't even describe it!  My husband is super-psyched about them too, enough that he suggested we make our very own IT Crowd with a third doll - one we had to put back in his box since we had been using him around the apartment in hilarious (but probably sacrilegious) ways.  Thus I present our own IT Crowd....

Moss, Richmond, and Jesus (of course)!!!
