1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Belated Halloween Goodness! on: November 30, 2007 06:41:36 PM
About a month before Halloween, a good friend of mine IMd me saying something like this  "i've decided i want to be juliet (angel costume from the baz luhrman version) for halloween. but all of the costumes suck. CAN YOU MAKE IT?" Of course I responded with a resounded "well, i guess i can try". So we went to the Goodwill to look for nightgowns or t shirts that could be reconstructed. We found a really good night gown to use for the skirt and got some t shirts for the top, but I decided to just use a wifebeater. I made her wings out of feathers, cardboard, ribbon, and tape. I decided that I wanted to be a faerie, and made my wings out of coat hangers and tights. The dress I bought at goodwill for $5, and the petticoat was my mothers.

Me on the left, my friend on the right. See the girl in the background? I made her shirt, it's a green tunic for her Maid Marion costume.

A close up of my wings.

A very happy Halloween indeed!
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Necktie Party Dress! on: November 30, 2007 06:15:35 PM
Hi guys!

I've had this idea for a while, at least since grade school, only until recently did I actually execute it. I took 18 of my dad's old ties (with his permission of course) and 2 of my friend's dad's ties (with his permission too), sewed them together, hemmed the top and added a halter neck (another tie). The thing in my right hand is a clutch. I wore this to an ex-friends bat mitzvah and for an English presentation - everyone loved it and I am so proud of it. It's my baby =^.^=  The shoes are from Urban Outfitters: http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp;jsessionid=947919412929AE2248EFB7B5539B985F.app11-node8?itemdescription=true&itemCount=60&id=13226725&parentid=W_SHOES_HEELSWEDGES&sortProperties=+product.marketingPriority,-product.startDate&navCount=3&navAction=poppush&color=46

This is also gonna be my yearbook picture Smiley

Also, I've entered this in a contest here, so please vote for me if you liked it! http://www.doesthislookstupid.com/outfit/vote/587 (Mods: I believe this is allowed, if not please remove the link/sentence)

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / too-small jeans with a busted zipper + a velvet shirt = ..... on: November 12, 2006 05:56:23 PM
Okay, so I had these jeans in my rag pile that were too smalll - so I couldn't wear them - and had a busted zipper - so I couldn't give them to Goodwill. So finally I came up with the idea to make them bigger in the waist by adding fabric there and making it into a skirt. So, without further ado...

I followed this: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=25072.0 tutorial for the ruffles and added in the stripes by cutting down the sides of the skirt (before putting the ruffles on) and sewing it in there.
Thanks for looking,
6  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / Union Jack Converse! on: November 12, 2006 05:34:56 PM
Hi everybody! Okay, so I had this pair of boring green converse knock-offs, so I dedcided to paint them like the Union Jack (aka the British Flag), despite the fact that I'm American
Action Shots!:

Okay, so I only painted one of them so far, but anyway, what do you think I should paint the other one? Union jack? American Flag? Oh, and what do you think I should seal them with so the paint is permanent.
Comment, critiscims (sp?), etc. welcome,
7  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Dolphins, and tigers, and lambs (and more) oh my! (VERY IMG heavy) on: November 05, 2006 01:21:06 PM
In 3rd-5th grade at my school I did this lunch club (a club that took place during recess) called Stuffed Animals, where we made - you guessde it - stuffed animals. (They get better as you scroll down)

A whale/dolphin (if you turn it upside down it's a dolphin)

A bear (it used to play "You Are My Sunshine" when you squeezed it's tummy)

A cat

An elephant

A duck

A horse, but it looks more like a dog

An actual dog!

A tiger

A lamb

A polar bear

By the way, these are NOT my patterns - I just sewed them up.

Comments/critiscims (sp?) welcomed,
8  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Marie Antoinette Wig on: November 05, 2006 01:10:19 PM
For Halloween this year I was Marie Antoinette. I didn't feel like buying a 20-30 dollar wig so I made my own. Out of magazines and a paper bag.

The paper bag was the base of the wig, and I rolled up magazines into cilinders, glued them on there, and spray painted it. (no, I did not make the dress)

Thanks for looking,
P.S. Please excuse the funny look on my face Tongue
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / I need a scrabble themed gift on: November 04, 2006 04:50:56 PM
As we all know, Christmas is coming and I want to make something nice for my parents. My dad used to be a scrabble fanatic, and I would love to make something either scrabble themed or made out of scrabble pieces. Any ideas?
10  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / magic scarf on: October 22, 2006 05:44:25 PM
I have this old magic scarf (you know, those things that were popular a while back..http://spgifts.com/sm0047big.jpg) but it has a huge hole smack dab in the center of it. Anyone have any good (or bad xP) ideas on how to use it?

P.S. I'm new here, so that's why you haven't seen my around here before Smiley
