1  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Help needed - soap made with caustic soda on: March 21, 2011 07:25:54 AM

Not been on these boards in a few years ( sorry  Embarrassed ) so if a question like this has been asked already, I had searched but didn't find anything quite relevant

Basically, I made soap with caustic soda about 5/ 6 weeks ago, some of the soap I poured into plastic containers and popped it out after it had solidified, but some I had poured into a silicon ice cube tray, and had left the soap in the tray up until now.

The colour of the tray seems to have transferred to the soaps... I'm just wondering, firstly can the soaps be used, or should I have taken them from the tray earlier to let them air? in which case would waiting another 4 weeks or so make them ok to use? Secondly, d'ya reckon the tray will be ok to use for ice cubes again after a quick scrub?

Thanks for anyone who can help me here  Kiss

The off white block to the left is the colour of the original mix

Edit: Sorry, this shouldn't be in completed projects, don't know if it's pos to move the thread?

Also, the picture doesn't quite get the colours right. The pac man soaps are neon yellow, like highlighter colour. I dissected one in half, the yellow goes through most of the soap, with only a small patch in the middle the original colour

[Edit: sorry if this wasn't the right place to post, I was uncertain where this should go Embarrassed ]
Hallo Smiley The title says it all really, but I've not posted anything I've made on here any time recently (ok, the only craft I've ever posted on here I made a long time ago at primary school  Embarrassed  ) and so as I was quite chuffed with this...

Can you spot it?

Little close up (and odd looking reflections Roll Eyes )

A few CDs, a washer and clock mechanism (taken from clock made in D&T at school but never used), so is 100% recycled really Smiley
On half term holiday atm, and procrastinating catching up with college work Embarrassed but crafting is better Smiley
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / What to get for guy friends? on: May 06, 2007 06:13:20 AM
I always have problems with getting presents for guys, (especially my dad, though I don't need to worry about him for a while)

I was wondering maybe we could list things to buy for guys who are hard to buy for, or who you've just ran out of dif things to buy them? (it's nice when guys like bracelets, but a guy can only wear so many bracelets).

I have two guy friends bdays coming up really soon, the soonest is Thursday, and have v little time for making things.
4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Can I do this? if so how? on: December 05, 2006 12:24:57 PM
Okay, the story is I had the idea of making balloon critters for little presents this christmas, by getting a balloon and filling it with flour then sticking on googly eyes and a pompom nose, like those toys that are made of rubbery material (which i guess is a balloon) and are filled with flour, that you can sorta mould into different shapes slightly (I had one several years ago, but I'd thought of the idea before I remembered this). Only problem is after trying to do this I realised the balloon won't stretch with the weight of the flour, so unless I wanted to make pathetically small creatures (which I really don't) then I can't fill the balloon with the flour. How can I make a decent sized creature? Hoping someone understands what I'm trying to say here or offer some advise... Also I'm sorry if this is the wrong board, I thought this was the most appropriate board.
