Not far from me then - I'm about 10 miles from MK!

hey jane,
10 miles in which direction? i'm about 10 miles southwest, i'd say, located near leighton buzzard; halfway between MK and aylesbury.
2  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Where to learn to Crochet? on: February 09, 2007 03:44:02 AM
hi guys,
i only learned how to crochet about 4 months or so ago!
what i recommend is, read the crochet FAQs on this forum, there's lots of tutorials as to how to do the stitches and stuff! that's how i learned it. it's easy once you get started, believe me! Smiley
if you need any more help or advice, feel free to pm me.

7  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Yarn question on: February 01, 2007 09:55:15 AM
hi everyone,

i saw someone do this lovely horse bag on the "completed projects" board, and i'd just love to give it a try! http://www.crochetme.com/2005_Oct_Nov/pattern_tapestry_crochet_purse.htm

the problem is: it says to use dmc senso wool cotton thread, and i can't find that anywhere on UK websites.  Huh so does anyone know what type of yarn it is (i reckon it must be quite tough as it's a for a bag), and/or what the English equivalent would be?

thank you very much!  Smiley

8  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Penpals Take Two on: January 31, 2007 07:49:32 AM
hi everyone,

i'd love a pen pal, too!  Grin
about myself, i'm 27, from the UK (england/east anglia) and live with my boyfriend and our dog (see pic). i like crocheting (only very recently learned it, though), drawing, painting, even doing the odd bit of calligraphy! apart from that, i'm into reading (all of the agatha christies at the moment), music, photography, animals...
so don't hesitate, pm me!  Cheesy

10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: THE GENERIC BOYFRIEND GIFT THREAD: A How-To! on: November 09, 2006 02:12:27 PM
ok... here's the best thing i ever made for my boyfriend!
i made him a book. i had read that short story by haruki murakami, "on seeing the 100 % perfect girl one beautiful april morning", which is romantic and sad and funny all at the same time. and i wanted to share this with my boyfriend. as i have had a calligraphy course at uni, i knew what i wanted to do!
i bought some nice cardboard, off-white/beige for the inner pages, brown for the cover and dark red for the inside cover (forgot what that's called). i wrote the story in dark red ink with a 1.5 mm tip in uncial writing, with the first letter on every page in fracture font, 2 mm tip and blue ink.
it took me ages to do it; cutting the cardboard, measuring the pages, to figure out how big the writing needed to be, the writing itself! that was about an hour per page. but after it was all done and bound, i was so proud of it, and my boyfriend really loved it and said that was the best present he ever got  Smiley
so all the effort was really worth it!
