Thanks everyone for the amazing ideas and even directions!  You guys are so awesome. I'm so excited to be leaving in just a few days, and I'm hoping to make it to a lot of the places mentioned.  Fun!

Hi friends across the ocean!  Every board seems to have a "So I'm coming to visit... what should I do?" post, but I didn't see one here, so:

I'm coming to Scotland to visit in the spring, and am looking for the insider scoop on what to see and do in Edinburgh and Glasgow.  What do you think a crafty girl who likes little independent endeavours and small discoveries should see, eat and do to get a unique experience in Edinburgh and Glasgow?  I've seen the post on crafty stores and supplies, but what else is out there that they might not mention in the guidebooks and websites?  Got any secrets to share?  Any must-sees that are generally known?

Were back!  Our new calendar has hit the streets, and our first workshop is coming up this weekend!

For those of you who dont know us, we are a Craft Collective in Vancouver with the mandate to cultivate the contemporary craft scene in this city by providing craft resources (ie.  workshops, advice, written information), community involvement (craft events, craft fairs, sometimes dance parties) and running (eventually) an art gallery and craft resource centre.  We used to have a centre on Pender St, were shut down by the city, took a 10-month hiatus, and have recently returned!

At the moment we dont have a permanent home, so our workshops and events are being held at locations throughout the community, thanks to the generosity of many local organizations and businesses.

Wed love to have involvement from the whole craft community, so if you are interested in facilitating a workshop (it pays pretty well), helping out at events, being a Collective Member, helping us develop our resource centre, wed love to hear from you. (email [email protected])

Here follows some promotional information, so if you are interested, keep going.

Workshops coming up include:

Lino Block Printing with Tania Willard
Sat Feb 24th 3-6pm at the Purple Thistle

Beginners Knitting with Kirsten Pudas
Tues Mar 8th 6-9pm at Spartacus Books

Also coming up are workshops in book-making, doll-making, felting, live-culture food and more.

Full calendar is at www.seamrippers.org, (and if youre lucky, you might find one at a coffee shop or business near you.)

Also starting up March 6th  at Rhizome caf is our (bi-weekly in March, weekly in April) Craft Socials, casual opportunities for crafters to meet and craft over beer or coffee or tea at Rhizome Caf and the Brickhouse.

And, as well, the I Heart Crafts Bazaar April 15th, which is still accepting submissions for jury.

And we will have a real website up soon, promise.

Were tickled pink to be back, hope to see you out there.

There is an I Heart Crafts Bazaar coming up on April 15th 2007.

Here is the info e-mail from Charlotte, the organizer.  Cheers!

Hello my crafty friends!
I have the date for the 2nd Spring I Heart Crafts Bazaar - Sunday April 15th (It's our 1st birthday)!
And I have a new location - this fair will be at the Ukrainian Cultural Center, 805 East Pender at Hawks St. in Strathcona.

Setup will be at 10am - doors open at 11am - doors close at 6pm, then we can leisurely breakdown because we have the space till midnight - we are thinking about having a seamrippers fundraiser of some sort afterwards - maybe some performances, music, dancing - let me know if you would like to contribute in some way.

At the Ukrainian cultural center they only have 6 foot tables, the cost per table will be $35 each - If you would like to share a table with a friend that's great just let me know.

If you weren't at the previous i heart crafts this is a juried craft bazaar so I would like to see some pictures of your lovely work or set up a time to meet with you.
You will be selected (or not) based on quality, uniqueness and with an effort to select a wide arrange of items - for example - If there are already 3 people making beaded jewelry I will be looking for other things.
As for promotion - I will be postering and fylering all over the city (let me know if you want to help) and  I'll send out an email to the 500+ people on Seamripper's mailing list. My partner in crime Chrissy Poulos who is seamrippers media contact with send out a press release to all the local papers.
I need to receive all payments by April 1st so that i can  pay for the rental of the hall.
Everything sold must be hand made locally by you - that means nothing imported or manufactured.
Also, as a fundraiser for Seamrippers Craft Collective there will be a raffle, so if you have a small hand made item you would like to donate I will come around on the day of and collect those.
At the fall bazaar we raised $150 for Seamrippers(thanks guys!)
Ok so start your crafting engines!
Let me know if you have any questions and send me an email if you want to get involved.
Talk to you soon.
xo Charlotte
