21  Re: Show off your hair! in Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions by rainbowmeow on: May 20, 2005 10:53:08 AM
Here's my hair.  Very uninteresting.  It's dyed black, and almost shoulder length at its longest in the back.  In the picture it's crimped and poofy.  I'm thinking about going shorter though... Any comments?  I've had it short before, about 2 inches I think.

22  The new lamps like the floor... in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by rainbowmeow on: May 06, 2005 05:16:33 PM
We had these ugly brass lamps, with tan/off white shades that really looked bad.  So my dad repainted the lamp part and I made the shade.  The shade is black with white polka dots.  The flash made it look a lot more see through than it really is.  I sewed the shade on around the bottom edge and then handsewed the top.  It was really stretchy fabric, so I didn't need to fit it or anything.  The paint is Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch.  It comes in a bunch of really bright colors that cover really well.  Mine was $2.79 at Meijer.

(Don't worry, the lamps won't live on the floor.  One lives next to a lime green arm chair.  The other gets to keep my TV company.)

I cannot get pictures to turn out for the life of me.  So this is my last try.

Sorry they're dark.

24  Corset in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by rainbowmeow on: May 04, 2005 07:54:00 AM
I did a project on Elizabethan England's clothing for my Shakespeare class, and I made a corset for it.  I used a pattern generated from http://costume.dm.net/ which at this point in time, is not working for me.  I spent a short night on it because it was really basic.  It has canvas for the inner and outer fabric, nylon ties for boning, and I used hem tape on the bottom edge, and black lace on the top.  There are 14 channels of boning on each side.  I didn't make it any more heavy-duty because I don't have anything to support, and it was only for a class.  I think if I did it again, I would use a busk on the front becasue I have to completely unlace the corset to put it on otherwise, even though I have 5-6 yards to work with.

27  A dress and a shirt *new pics* in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by rainbowmeow on: April 24, 2005 02:31:46 PM
I made this dress out of a Dick Tracy Sheet I found at a thrift store.  I used McCall's 3584.  The Dick Tracy dress took a night to do, the second one took maybe an hour.  I didn't make the lining for it though.  I did feel that the pattern sizing was a little weird.  The top was really really low and way too big, so I had to change that.  There's basically only 5 pieces for the whole dress.  The second dress was made from a tablecloth I found at my mom's.

This was made out of one of my dad's old shirts.  I made it smaller, and then drew on the picture.  The stencil is floating around here somewhere.  I used hearts instead of the butterflies since I can't draw very well.

28  Space Invaders Quilt *new pic* in Quilting: Completed Projects by rainbowmeow on: April 20, 2005 07:43:13 PM
I was inspired by the mario quilt.  I don't have any good pictures at the moment, just one of me working on it.  I was pinning the edges together, I think.  You can imagine two other space guys.  The quilt is kinda uneven, but it was my first.  And I had no clue what I was getting into.  I'll put up a better picture when I get it.  Oh, and I think I spent a couple days on this.  I know that sounds nuts, but I worked on it for a day or two, and then put it off until 3 days before Christmas, and just did it then.

There's a better picture.  The back is solid dark green.  Oh yeah, and I noticed that the black squares look differently shaded.  I'm not sure why because they all came from the same piece of fabric.  Oh well.  Maybe it's the flash?

29  My Cat's Cute Skirt in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by rainbowmeow on: January 19, 2005 07:39:10 PM
I decided that my cat was just not cute enough.  So I made her a skirt.  It's pink and white polka dot, with black lace on the edge, and the waist is elastic.

30  Dress with Pleated Edge in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by rainbowmeow on: November 19, 2004 01:42:43 PM
I was going through some pictures and discovered this.  I made it about 3 months ago, you know... when the weather wasn't horrible.  Anyway, it's basically a tube dress, I just added a pleated ruffle thing to the bottom and made a drawstring tie at the top so it won't fall off.  I know it isn't especially great, but I like it.
