11  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: 5 yds of Tulle/ Wanting a Tutu :) on: December 29, 2004 06:01:40 PM
hm, i dont know if you will understand this but i'll give it a shot:
first i would start out with how people were doing the tshirt skirts over the summer. i dont know if you were around then or recall but what they were doing was cutting right under the arms of a tank top, tshirt, etc.

then sew, turn right side out....essentially you are making what would be similar to a tube top. follow?

then i would cut your tulle.  hmm. probably three sets of varying lengths, or four, or however many layers you want. the examples appear to have longer ones at the bottom, shorter at the top.

after you have your tulle cut, i would begin sewing to the bottom of your skirt, i.e. tube top.  begin with your longest layer, stitch by hand and pull to scrunch like you were mentioning.  do this all the way around. then repeat with the next layer, and so forth.

ah....im tired so i dont know if you understand what i mean...but i think that should help get you going.

good luck!

thank you for the link, but i was actually referring to the finish on the mirror itself.  i read on a different message board that you can remove some of the backing with a paint/stain stripper, then put on about four coats of a walnut wood stain.

i was gonna give it a go...i'll let you know how it turns out.

if anyone else has any other suggestions, dont hesitate! Smiley

!!! on my honemoon, we went to the bahamas, if anyone has been there, you will know what i'm talking about.  we went to the straw market and some guy nad a necklace on similar to this, however the beads were stained with different tones.  sooooo beautiful!  he must have bought the last/only necklace, because i went down there day after day until we left to find it from a vendor, but no luck.....i don't know why it never occured to me to just make my own!  thank you for the inspiration!
