I got a spoilage filled package from Lady Lovecraft yesterday!

A great headband that actually fits my ginormous head!  Super-awesome bottle cap art things with Ganondorf, a Link/Wolf Link pendant, and a Majora's Mask pin.  Also a note on the back of the adorable kitty picture Smiley

close-up of the bottle caps:

Thanks for being such a great partner! Cheesy

12  Crochet Mama in CHALLENGE 55 ENTRIES by ambermoony on: October 07, 2010 09:52:03 PM

I've wanted to make a granny square pixel art blanket for a while, and I've always wanted to enter a Craftster Challenge, so here I am, killing two birds with one stone! Smiley

I started by hand-drawing my pattern in MS Paint - a pixellated version of Mama.  I placed her on a purple gingham background to keep with the Mama "feel".

I wanted a nice soft blanket - to make sure it got plenty of use - so I chose to use Caron Simply Soft yarn and a size “G” crochet hook.  I was limited by the available colors of yarn, so there isn't as much shading as I would have liked.  After gathering the yarn, I had to edit the pattern to reflect what I had.

Then I crocheted.  I crocheted and I crocheted and I crocheted.

To help keep count and to keep myself organized, I bundled the granny squares into groups of 10, tying them by the yarn tails.

Then I sewed a little,

and finally, I got this:

Detail shot:

My wonderful new Crafting Mama blanket measures approximately 45" x 60".

In all, this project took over 100 hours.  About 3 hours making and editing the pattern, about 80 hours of crocheting more than 1000 1.5" granny squares, and nearly 40 hours to sew it all together and weave in ends.  I started the day Craftster Challenge #55 was announced, and just finished today.  Thanks for looking!

[edited 10/13 to put image of final project first]

15  Re: Craft Challenge #55 - Pixelate Mama! - Due Oct 1 - Oct 7 in Craftster Craft Challenges by ambermoony on: September 21, 2010 10:45:49 PM
yeah hundreds of pixels makes this challenging.

Kinda wish Mama was 8-bit >.>

Make an 8-bit version of Mama!

Here's one I made Cheesy

It's not really 8-bit, since there are more than 4 colors per tile, but it's the 8-bit color palette and 16x24 pixels.

And the other color scheme:

16 x 24 is still almost 400 pixels, but that's better than the 1200 the other pixelated images I made have XD

17  Re: The Swap Your Crafts Could Smell Like Gallery in The Swap Gallery by ambermoony on: September 08, 2010 09:06:17 PM
I arrived home today to a package from the Man My Man could Smell Like... he's on a card!
Everything enclosed was made with Thrynity's bare hands!  And each item has an awesome introduction by The Man himself.

"Hello, Amber.  Look at your project bag.  Now look at me.  Now look at your project bag.  Now look back at me.  Your project bag is not me, but this one looks like the cake I baked you in the kitchen I built with my bare hands."

This tote puts a smile on my face every time I look at it - and it's just the right size for my current project!

"Amber, I know many things about many different kinds of hooks.  Fishing hooks, meat hooks, and the rare Albanian crook hook.  However, the only thing I know about crochet hooks is that you need something to put them in.  Something with freshwater fish."

This crochet hook roll is very well done, and sorely needed - that was the only crochet hook I could find to put in it!  (The rest are... somewhere... in my craft supplies XD)  But wait!  The back is made of white towel... does that mean he's naked now? o.O

"Hello again, Amber.  As you know, I am highly intelligent and do calculus and differential mathematics frequently using only soap bubbles and magic.  However, I realize that sometimes, you may lose count while crocheting or knitting.  So I made you these."

These are based off of my favorite The Man Your Man Could Smell Like videos - The Man himself, a diamond, freshwater fish, expensive magnifying glass, crown, and delicious cake.  These will get much use!

Such a great and useful package, thank you so much, Thrynity!  And of course, thanks to Songs4Drowning for such a great swap and perfect partner Cheesy

Personally, I don't like the way Photoshop pixellates images, and prefer to do it by hand.  I'm not sure I'll have time this month to enter, so I thought I'd at least share the sprites I made so that someone can use them!  Each Mama is 28 pixels wide and 39 pixels tall.

I finally got some decent pictures and can show off the lovely package I got from Amazing_784

She made this super-awesome baby carrier wrap in gorgeous fabric!  I've really wanted one of these - they're so comfortable to wear

(my little one was just fascinated by something upstairs and he just wouldn't look at the camera)

and a matching nursing cover!

She must have really stalked me, as these match my stroller, diaper bag, and most of my wardrobe!

She also sent an amazing Nintendo controller bag

with plenty of pockets!

It has become my new project bag, and the wrap and nursing cover have already gotten plenty of use!  Thank you SO much, amazing_784!  and thanks to our organizers for a great pairing!

20  Sheik Scarf (Legend of Zelda) with chart! in Knitting: Completed Projects by ambermoony on: September 02, 2010 12:53:10 AM
I made a Sheik scarf for a Zelda swap, and wanted to share it here!

I started by making a 5' long white scarf in stockinette stitch, then I used duplicate stitch to put the Eye of Truth symbol on it.  That's the symbol on Sheik's tabard.

Here is the chart I used:

More detailed instructions - including the scarf pattern - can be found here http://raisingganon.blogspot.com/2010/08/sheikah-scarf.html
I figured the knitting board on Craftster would already know how to knit a basic scarf, and the chart was the important part!
