11  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Anonymous Grave Marker on: November 30, 2014 07:47:59 AM
We are working on yet another one shot larp which takes place in a modern institution where lots of weevil things happen. Anyhow, in order to scare the bejesus out of the patients during their morning walk, we want to create a mini graveyard where the deceased are only identified by their number (in the same way that the patients players will). We're looking at having 15+ markers, hence the need for something simple.

So I whipped this prototype. The top is birch plywood and the bottom is pink insulation foam and some screws and nuts i had laying around. Everything is covered in drylock for texture and to be weather proof and on the day of, I'll probably treat it with hydrofuge spray.

I made the top part float over the bottom part so we can run hidden fishing lines to anchor them to the ground. It would be a shame if the wind took away our graveyard.

These are awesome. I'm reminded of the show "Art Attack". I love them all, but the lion is my favourite.
13  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Skin Prop on: July 07, 2014 07:15:05 PM
A quick prop made for a werewolf larp. It's supposed to be a piece of animal skin, freshly removed, by someone who doesn't really know what they are doing. The reverse is a brown suede-like fabric. Made with tinted latex on fabric.

What are you going to cast inside the molds?

When to home hardware, bought some very long bolts and nuts, then changed my mind on the bolts. I get home and of course, the nuts don't fit *facepalm*

Good thing they're cheap.

And another accident. After some 10 hours of crafting, it's 2 AM, I decide to go out on the balcony to spray some primer on a piece. Being lazy I just grab the first pair of shoes I have and head out on the cold, snow covered balcony. I spray, grab my gizmo, my can of primer and head inside. As my snow covered shoe made contact with the warm air, the snow turned into water. So With both hands busy I try to enter the apartment, my foot slips forward and I go flying, landing on the threshold between the balcony and the apartment. According to the s.o. I was out for a few seconds ... I personally just remember falling and then being on the floor. Two days on I feel as though I've been hit in the back with a 2 x 4.  Roll Eyes

Note to self: wear winter boots when going out in the snow.

And yet another larp prop. It is about 2 feet long and made of urethane rubber and wire and fusible plastic for the wings. The body is hollow and holds the wiring.

It will be used in the woods at night, hence the need for a very bright prop that can be seen from far away.

Not an accident but maybe the most awkward situation ever. I'm making a silicone mold for a small piece. Being lazy I didn't build a rig to hold my piece inside the silicone while it cures, thinking I could just hold it there for 20 minutes (not going to do that again) ... after about 10 minutes, I start sniffling only to realize that I've got a massive nosebleed ... inside my breathing mask. I'm wearing goggles, bulky gloves, I can't let go of my tiny cup with the silicone and anything to catch the blood is very far away. Suffice to say this was quite a contortion effort ... and freaked out the s.o. when he came in. However, the mold appears to have cured properly.  Tongue
