1  Re: Swell 1950s Swap! in The Swap Gallery by atelier07020 on: February 07, 2007 02:46:25 PM
I am so totally lame!  Sorry its taken so much time to post photos, I'm mad busy at my day-job!   Tongue

Here are the goods I received from Multitool...

a travel log for my upcoming trip to France - he put images of 'life in France' in the 50's on a transparency over wonderful graph paper (how did you know?!) & included an envelope in the back for ephemera. there's a great image of la tour eiffel.  and i will really use it!

a whole gaggle of magnets with all my favorite Eichler houses & fiberglass chairs by Charles & Ray Eames, etc. etc.  I have that George Nelson clock in my office, btw. funny!

and an analog clock, a mid-century-must-have, in the shape of a satelite which i think looks rather fetching on my parsons table at the moment...  Wink

thanks again Multitool, you're a peach!

2  My Mid-Century Modern Gingerbread House in Dessert by atelier07020 on: January 02, 2007 12:41:28 PM
Well, even though it wasn't a craftster challenge I was dying to make a modern style gingerbread house this year.  I was inspired by the case study houses of the 50s & 60s & architects like Eichler, Richard Neutra & Craig Ellwood. I kept the back open like a dollhouse so I could craft some edible furniture too. So much fun! Smiley

Here are some detail pics:

And some teasers:

Ah, thanks!  I l-o-v-e-d your things too, obviously - again so great!

Here are some photos of the things I sent, the quality of pics isn't great (weird color!)but you get the idea...

the package in its entirety

the ornament. it's origami made out of mod wallpaper swatches, micro glitter & beads.  you can't really see the faerie inside but its a silver charm that's suspended by monofilament. it's kind of like a 'faerie cage' i guess. there are windows in between each section that you can peek in & see her.

this is the charm

here are the cards, all pitbulls & pop art

the cookie kit for the random act of kindness. i vacuum sealed all of the dry ingredients & included a recipe card, cello bags, twine, & gift tags. did a test run of the recipe - it's pretty good!

and here is the t-shirt.  the pitbull is a modified line drawing from some clipart then i tweaked it in Photoshop &  used the 'color halftone' filter.  the grass is ultrasuede scraps.

Here's my loot! Craftsbian did a great job on everything, her wire jewelry is especially gorgeous - but I loved it all. Thanks again!

First off, the package itself was all decked out for the holidays. Made me crack a huge smile when I saw it on the doorstep...

To give she made a bunch of great gift tags & teeny envelopes in really cool patterns. And some awesome notepads in bright graphic prints (totally my thing!). LOVE.

Here are the fantastic wire ornaments, in two sizes.  Each one holds a ruby red glass marble, so beautiful.  I've been thinking about ways to use them after Christmas - maybe as a pull on a lamp or hung in the kitchen window.  Everything in my house is super modern so adding a little whimsey is always a good thing!

Some cozy Spongebob gloves & fleece scarf for the random act of kindness.  These will go right to New York City Rescue Mission tomorrow or maybe to one of the city's many homeless on my way to the mission... Either way they'll be appreciated.

Totally gorgeous copper wire & beaded flower pin. It reminds me of one of Van Gogh's sunflowers!  It was hard to capture how pretty it is in photos.

And finally, the pièce de résistance - this stunning, green cuff bracelet.  Made with wire & beautiful glass beads.  You have no idea how much this IS ME!  I love, love, love it.  Again, hard to capture in photos but I took a few shots so you can see how it catches the light.  Looks especially good with my everyday chunky watch (its a man's watch) & trinity ring that never leaves my finger. Don't know if that was just a good guess or what?! Perfect.

Thanks again Craftsbian, this was so much fun & you were a great swap partner!

5  fire island mermaid in Halloween Costumes by atelier07020 on: November 01, 2006 06:17:22 PM
So this is my first post here ever!  This year I made a mermaid costume for my step-daughter who lives on Fire Island.  I bought the nude leotard & the rest I made. The tail portion is 'holographic liquid spandex' *insert bad 80's joke here*, paillettes & silver tulle.  The top was the same spandex turned right side in, pink paillettes & 'seaweed' straps.  Come to find out they don't really make fake seaweed so I had to improvise with some silk ferns from the craft store - snipping & glueing to twine.  I also made her a shell necklace & some starfish/pearl barettes. The best part was the mermaid shawl.  I took an old velvet table runner that was wasting away in my attic, sewed real fishing net to it & hot glued all kinds of 'sealife' on the net - including plastic crabs, real starfish, little rubber goldfish, shells, etc.  I was pleased with the end result as this was the first costume I've made.  Might lend it to a friend for the Coney Island Mermaid Parade next year...
