1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / painting a desklamp? on: August 05, 2007 10:48:53 PM
I want to spraypaint a desk lamp red, it has a plastic shade and base, but I am unsure if using that spraypaint for plastics would be ok because of the heat, I use a low wattage bulb in it, but it still gets hot.  Any suggestions???
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Re: 10x10 Dorm Room Ideas?!? on: July 15, 2007 05:23:45 PM
I went through this last fall, except I was lucky enough to get an apartment-style dorm so I had my own bedroom, but it was like the size of a jail cell lol.  These are just a few things I did:
-I got a solid, reversable comforter with two sets of brightly colored striped sheets, so I could switch up my bedding every now and then and give me something else to look at since It's the biggest part of the bedroom.
-My bed was lofted when I got there, but I chose to take the loft down and have my bed rest on a 3-drawer dresser and a bookcase, so I had a lot of storage space under my bed, and I used one of my extra flat sheets to drape over the side of my bed to hide my clutter.
-I bought some cute multi-colored polka dot scrapbook pages and some brightly colored printer paper, and I printed inspirational words in tons of different fonts on the different colors, and glued them to the scrapbook paper, and taped them up in one corner of my room...i hope that makes sense, I can get a pic if it doesn't.
-I got a few of those paper lanterns in colors that matched my bed and hung them over my bed.
-of course, I had TONS of pictures, but since I really didn't have the space to put frames, I used the rest of my bright paper and cut out background paper for some pictures and hung them around the room and on my closet doors.
-I hung things like movie and concert tickets and pictures on the hutch on my desk.

I can't think of anything else now, but I'm sure there are a few things I'm missing, hope I helped!
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / black & white bedroom! need some advice!!! on: July 15, 2007 05:01:15 PM
So I have this bedding set that I absolutely love, but I got a new beautiful wrought iron headboard & footboard set and they don't match my very geometric comforter & sheets...(don't mind the big hole in the wall, used to be my little bro's room)

I'm moving into my own apartment in about a month and I want to do my bedroom in black and white, but I have two ideas: I'm either going to get a solid black comforter with some pretty black and white sheets with flowers or something similar to my headboard, or I want to get something like this and pair it with a black sheet set: http://www3.jcpenney.com/jcp/ProductsHOM.aspx?catnum=FC728-2801D&action=Edit&ItemSeq=0&EditRefPage=http%3a%2f%2fwww3.jcpenney.com%2fjcp%2fbag.aspx&cmBagLookup=True&CmCatId=Bag

the rest of my bedroom furniture is black, and I was thinking if I went with the blue (or another bright color) comforter, I would get some accent decorative pieces to match...

What should I do???

To answer the last 3 questions:
Yes, you would print on the paperey side.

And I use Reynold's freezer paper and it works swell.  I've never tried any other kind.

Happy stenciling Smiley

I love this!  I only have one question, maybe I missed it, but what did you use for the buckle part of the belt?

Yeah my clock hands came from Michael's.  Mine are silver and zig zag, too.  They do get expensive, but if you recycle everything else on the clock, it's not bad.

I'm just hanging it with a nail from the back of the clock mechanism.
You could use those sticky things....um I don't know how to explain them.  They're like little squares of adhesive...maybe if I think about it I'll be able to come up with a better explanation.
Thank you Smiley

I made these this past weekend and I think they turned out great!  I just can't figure out where to hang them in my room  Huh

Let me know what you think of them!

^That one means "happiness"

^That one means "prosperity"

AAAAnd...here's the clock:
^The last one means "love"

I just used acrylic paint on them, and used contact paper for the stencil of the characters.

I made them to match this string of lights that I just picked up from a flea market over the summer:

As you can see, I'm redecorating my room in an Oriental theme.
A new Oriental store just opened at the mall nearby...I can't wait until I get paid, I already know what I'm buying from there Smiley  Everything is SO CHEAP!

Anyway...thank you for looking!  Tell me what you think!
