1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Key swap on: April 06, 2019 08:34:19 AM
A long time ago, I was part of a key themed swap. Steampunk and fairy doors, skeleton keys and industrial, everything was a possibility. I'd love to have another round, and I'm happy to organise. Would anyone want to join?

The trailer makes me so excited. I'd love to be in this, especially if there could be a question in the questionnaire about if you ship anything/know what shipping is.

I'm pretty happy with timing. I finished my first ever pair of splash pants, just in time for the mountain of snow at my preschool to become a lake of mud and sand.

(I just found out my long-distance Alabamian girlfriend had never heard of splash pants. Just in case this is a far reaching thing, splash pants are like raincoats for your legs.)

I don't have a picture yet, they went straight to work. But I'll try to get one, because I'm pretty happy with them.  Smiley

Aww man, I just missed this. Well, you all have fun and I'll be here next time! I'm sure I'll pin everything in the gallery  Cheesy
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Mermaid Unicorn and Pals 2 Swap? on: March 17, 2019 02:56:49 AM
This theme would definitely get me into swaps again. I've been taking 2019 off a bit, too many deadlines, but unicorns and mermaids are worth the crunch. I literally talked myself out of buying unicorn fabric online TODAY.

So I'm really trying to go all out for my March drama area theme change. (My daycare rearranges the 8ish areas every month, me and my co-teacher are responsible for 4 each, and switch back and forth) I decided on outer space, and have been making a bunch of stuff at home.

My latest idea is a few stuffie aliens. The problem being, I'm not really a stuffie maker. Also, we have a few super destructive boys, so I don't want to expend too much effort on something that will probably get destroyed before March is over. Once I figure out something, I'll post pics.  Undecided

Thanks for all the nice words!

CLM, I will literally never say no to free swag for daycare. Especially not something worked on with the kind of love you put into all your creations. But please don't feel like you have to, I know you have a billion things going on in your life.  Smiley

kbrison, thanks for all the kind words. The crow was actually done by tracing a design onto a translucent binder separator plastic thing, then carefully cutting it out with an exacto knife. And yeah, green+blue+gold was a combo I hadn't tried before, but I liked the end look.

The postal strike was over mid-December, primarily because people WERE freaking out about getting Christmas supplies/presents to destinations on time. I have no idea how my package got lost for so long, I'm just grateful it ended up in edel's arms. She made me such a great package, and is so kind, she deserves to never feel flaked on.

I finished a big batch of WIPs from mid-2018. Of course, it's the kind of project that the finished piece is no smaller than the materials. But at least with them finished, they can be USED. Usability is super important, right?

The post about my story scarves is here: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=457482.0

So I originally cut these out in August, when my daycare was having a flowers theme, but didn't get around sewing them until recently. What were intended to be dancing scarves are now obsolete, as 11 of the 16 kids graduated to kindergarten, and the new batch couldn't care less about music and dancing.

That said, they love storytelling. Not just books, but any sort of story. Improvised stories save my life during group transitions, seriously. So these scarves are now story scarves. They live in the block area, and they're meant to mix with people toys, to be backgrounds for playing out a story a teacher improvises.

The blues are good for snow, the orange is almost always lava.

The brown tends to be quicksand/normal sand.

The left rainbow flowers are the jungle, brown is chocolate or mud.

The stripes ladders, the squares are buildings, especially jail.

The scarves are all cotton, about 18x18 inches, and double hemmed so that no raw edges are showing. They've gotten some pretty good use. At some point I'll probably make some that DON'T have flowers, but I also don't want to be too literal. Imagination is the point of these, after all.
