faemystique, I love that jellyfish! the 3d elements are super cool!

Wulf, that skunk is super cute.

I can't take compliments for the cross stitched card, that work was done by bec99, but I agree that it looks cute.

I've recieved from both my partners now!

From Wulf, a patch kit and two Halloween patches:

And from curiousfae, MORE halloween/zombie patches!

My favourite thing about this swap is how many fascinating variations you can get on a theme. I love it.

3  Story Scarves in Completed Projects by gala_apples on: February 14, 2019 09:50:48 AM
So I originally cut these out in August, when my daycare was having a flowers theme, but didn't get around sewing them until recently. What were intended to be dancing scarves are now obsolete, as 11 of the 16 kids graduated to kindergarten, and the new batch couldn't care less about music and dancing.

That said, they love storytelling. Not just books, but any sort of story. Improvised stories save my life during group transitions, seriously. So these scarves are now story scarves. They live in the block area, and they're meant to mix with people toys, to be backgrounds for playing out a story a teacher improvises.

The blues are good for snow, the orange is almost always lava.

The brown tends to be quicksand/normal sand.

The left rainbow flowers are the jungle, brown is chocolate or mud.

The stripes ladders, the squares are buildings, especially jail.

The scarves are all cotton, about 18x18 inches, and double hemmed so that no raw edges are showing. They've gotten some pretty good use. At some point I'll probably make some that DON'T have flowers, but I also don't want to be too literal. Imagination is the point of these, after all.

I got my package from Onyxnox  Grin

She sent me a bunch of anatomical heart mini notecards. They came with a baggie of sentiments that I can choose amongst to finish each card off, depending on what I want to say. She also sent a bunch of paper, and a lasercut thingy.

Thanks onyxnox, for the first swap of the year!

5  A Christmas Duvet Cover in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by gala_apples on: December 18, 2018 06:42:22 PM
So for the last fifteen years I've had the same Christmas duvet cover, one lovingly made by my mom for me before she lost her vision and couldn't sew. A few years ago I got a new duvet, and it's wider and longer. Nice, except for how it makes the Christmas duvet bunch and not cover my whole body. I dealt with it for a few years, but I got impatient this year, and made a new one.

I love scrappy look stuff, but straight lines are pretty much my kryptonite. The more lines, the worse I'm likely to screw it up. But  not only do I love patchwork, I've also inherited a million miles of fabric. So I tried to keep it super basic: just ten stripes. All of the fabric was too narrow, so I did french seams that I varied the placement of, so there wouldn't be a big stripe down the middle.

The whole bed:

Close up of the first 4:

The middle 3:

The bottom 3:

Twenty plus seams and only one screw up... one of the directional fabrics is upside down on one half of the stripe. For me, that's pretty good odds!

6  Re: Life is Berry Sweet - Strawberry Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by gala_apples on: December 08, 2018 04:00:10 PM
I received from my angel for this swap, nodsu. They sent me a necklace and a pouch and some funky little extras.

lip chap, some stickers, and a faux berry stem  Smiley

The strawberry pendant has a very interesting combination. The leaves are either some of the tiniest crocheting I've seen, or cut free stumpwork embroidery, if that's even possible. The berry is lightweight, but extremely smooth. It feels like it could be paper mache, except I've never seen mache so glossy and slick.
The pouch has a variety of textures too. The bag itself is a felted sweater, I think? But it's got more of the Huh on the edges, and a ribbon woven around the centre, and of course the beading.

Thanks for all the detail work, nodsu!

7  Re: Invite Your Partner Swap Fall 2018 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by gala_apples on: December 05, 2018 07:49:23 PM
I got edelc's package finally, and it's bleeping amazing! We agreed to one large one medium one small, and she sent me about a billion things. I love them all, of course, but holy jeez is it a ton!

she said she didn't want to waste paper to be thrown out, so instead she sewed cloth bags for most of the items!

she sent me large scraps of previous fabric printing projects. I love scrappy things so maybe having these bits will be the kick needed to make something for myself.

lovely pour artwork that I'm going to lovingly regift to my best friend of 15 year's mom... she just moved into a new house like 3 weeks ago, and hasn't been able to afford decorating or painting, while her last house every room was a different colour.

a seriously stunningly detailed shirt for my girlfriend. anatomical hearts are an in-joke with us, and it was so kind of edel to make her something too.

WHAT WE ACTUALLY AGREED TO SWAP, LOL. a metre of fabric. I love this snitch fabric, I'm already percolating ideas of what it's going to look like sewed up into a shirt.

and lastly, jewellry. I'm pretty sure these exact pendant, or at least something like it, is on my pinterest.

All in all, all I have to say is if you want an outstanding partner, go with edel  Grin
