For Halloween, I was Marie Antoinette!
Found an old size 8 prom dress, cut and hemmed it, added extra tulle in a bubble hem to add modernity and fullness, made and attached the ribbon/ rhinestone button detailing by, and added the Swarovski crystal beads around the top and in the bodice/ribbon detailing by hand.  Tiara and all extra jewelry was bought.
Hope you all like it!

Thanks for the extra pictures!

Fabulous reconned book!  Great idea to have Merry's book as a prop.  All the accessories make the costume.  The mock embroidery is an awesome touch, too.  I'm totally in love with all your stuff.

LOTR costumes rock  Smiley

Yeah, I'm geeky... here's proof

Your welcome!
Wow! I love love love your bathroom! I am pretty much stunned by the awesomeness of it all.
Also, that is my favorite picture of Sir Tolkien; he just looks like the kind of guy you could hang out with and have a really nice chat.

Well, Since ofenjen expressed a desire for more pictures, here they are:

The not-so-great book I made:

I found a cheap old book at the thrift store ($0.95), tore all the pages out, buffed off the titel with a dremel, added wear and tear with a Dremel, then painted a new title on the front (not very well though, I was getting hungry, so my hand started to shake, i might do it over) and then I sewed together about 20 pages of thick paper with coptic stitch and glued it into the book.

Close-up of the label on the bottle:

My big ole hobbit foot:

I'm a jolly hobbit:

did anyone else notice the embroidery on the vest? man, you costume definately puts mine to shame- i'm going to wear kitty ears with black eye liner whiskers
It's not really embroidered; I just drew a pattern on the vest, then sewed along the line with my sewing-machine.  Thank you for noticing [:

Yours wings are wonderful! I like the way the kind of have veins in them; it makes them look kind of natural.

Yay, Merry! This is fantastic! The cape is so nice and shiny! And SO BLUE. (sorry. i like blue. i like shiny.)

Your accessories are pretty rad, too--the pipe is a fabulous shape. I seriously dig the beat up ruckstack, as well.

And, just, SQUEE--you are actually wearing a vest. Faboo!

Did you just buy the cloak-claspy-pin thing somewhere, then?

Thank you  Cheesy.  I pretty much fell in love with the fabric when I saw it (it's not that blue in real life though, it's a lot greyer).
hehe, yeah the vest gave me a lot of problems. I didn't take my boobs into account when I made my ghetto pattern, so in order to button it, I have to wear a sportsbra and hold my breath.

My Mom bought the pin for me 2 years ago, I think she got it off of the official website (yay Mom!)

I love the liquor bottle.. looks deadly cool.  I'd probably bring it to class as a water bottle,  Grin

I only have cranberry juice in my bottle right now, because I'm going to be wearing my costume to school, and I don't think my professors or the campus police would approve of me getting plastered during lecture  Tongue.

I love it.  The details are fantastic.  I think you are a very convincing Merry.

Love the action picture with the pipe.  Someday I would love to try my hand at an Eowyn inspired dress.  But in the mean time I need to brush up on my sewing before I taken on such an adventure.

Anyway, yay for LOTR costumes! Grin

Great idea; I love pretty much everything worn by Eowyn!
