21  high-neck 1950s cocktail dress into spring skirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by jamiewatchthestars on: June 21, 2007 04:41:38 PM
i bought this dress (picture is missing in action) at Goodwill for $5, knowing that i would eventually make something out of it.  It was a cocktail dress from the 50s with a REALLY HIGH neckline.

anyway, due to a lack funds, i just decided to chop it up into a skirt for spring

added a yoke and a zipper so that it would fit better:

im very happy with how it turned out.

22  hemp choker in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by jamiewatchthestars on: June 21, 2007 04:37:45 PM
i bought a spool of hemp on a whim at a ragshop going out of business sale and i though that i wouldn't even end up using it, but once i started making things i couldn't stop.

they are so much fun and so easy to make.  the beads were from a hideous necklace that i got at a street fair in the dominican republic.  they are glass.

23  first stencil project-- george washington tee shirt in Stenciling: Completed Projects by jamiewatchthestars on: June 21, 2007 09:52:20 AM
i did this a long time ago, and i have done a whole bunch of better shirts that i dont have pictures of since.  anyway, i decided to do george washington because he is pretty recognizable so i would be able to tell if it turned out well on first glance.

i just used regular spray paint.  since, i have learned that fabric paint and a brush turns out neater because you dont have to worry about that hideous hazy square around your picture (like i got!)

24  slouchy mary jane hat in Knitting: Completed Projects by jamiewatchthestars on: June 21, 2007 09:47:11 AM
i made this for my friend in wool-ease and then decided to make it for myself in something a little nicer.  the yarn is 100% soy silk and it was a PLEASURE to work with.  i didn't get any of those annoying things where you accidentally put your needle through the center of a strand of yarn and then it splits (is there a name for this?).

excuse my face, sometimes i look like ronald mcdonald.

it was an easy pattern and i am really happy with how it turned out.  i can provide a link if anybody is interested.

26  copper wire tree branch necklace in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by jamiewatchthestars on: June 21, 2007 09:40:42 AM
i made this from copper wire.  basically you make the form of the branch and then wrap it.  i can provide a tutorial if anybody is interested.  im pretty happy with how it turned out.  people compliment it all the time.

i wish i had a chain that matched it, but the color is bizarre

27  fabric wrapped bangles in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by jamiewatchthestars on: June 21, 2007 09:38:22 AM
these were inspired by something i saw at urban outfitters a while back.  i just took 4 wire bangles and wrapped them in coordinating 1x45 inch strips of fabric.  a dab of hot glue and voila!

does anybody know of where i can get a pattern for this?

the designer is rebecca beeson.  it was in the february issue of real simple.  it retails for $215, and there is no way i am paying that.

similar would be fine.
im a pretty good knitter, but not great.  i can crochet as well.

30  Re: Ongoing Wish Swap Round 21 in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by jamiewatchthestars on: April 05, 2007 12:11:52 PM
i am jamiewatchthestars and i claim gatsbygirl for a jar of whimsies (as inspired by her wists), fabric, an embroidery hoop, and maybe some other fun things!  This is my first claim, with zero sent and zero received.

I am a 15 year old girl living in pennnsylvania.  I like the 1920s, 1970s, owls, books, grafitti, and learning. I dislike checkerprint, black and white stripes, and hello kitty.  wool makes me itch.

Things I would like:

-old pictures (pre 1980) of anything.  any amount (even 1 is fine)

-anything from my wists!

-a tee shirt inspired by team ice cream (ladies S/kids L)

-crochet necklace from anthropologie (see wists)

-a kit teaching me to do resin crafts

-russian nesting dolls (any type/style)

-microfilm slides

-craft supplies related to birds

-1 set bookends (my room is plum, red, and pea soup green, with black wood (please coordinate))

-instructions on how to make sock monkies

-yarn (not acrylic or eyelash, any color!)

-a pair of seamed stockings (size small, any color)

-notions (any/all!)

-a headband for when i go to the gym.  1970s inspired or otherwise.  maybe terrycloth?

-any junk you want to throw in that you think i might like!

-stationary (i collect it.  only one piece is fine.  handmade or store-bought are both ok)

-viewfinder discs (the little red thing that you click to see pictures)

thanks!!  :]
