12  Re: Altering Paper Crafts Supply Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by bacettox on: February 12, 2010 04:18:55 AM
Here are my goodies from attackofthequacks!

Firstly, some gorgeous old sheet musics, images and a few books. The most amazing 'Ministry of Supply' paper.

Two huge posters of gems and birds.

Looooads of amazing scrapbook papers! Wowzers.

I love these!! Some black and white old postcards, old money and stamps!

Lots and lots of scrapbooking embellishments, stickers etc.

Also, loads and loads of buttons, beads and ribbons, and a tiny pack of playing cards.

Thanks so much attackofthequacks! What a great first swap experience this has been.

13  Carousel Wedding Cake! in Dessert by bacettox on: October 29, 2009 04:58:50 AM
A bit of backstory here: My brother got married this summer, and instead of a traditional wedding, they did it their own way and ran off to get married by themselves. We didn't know where and we didn't even know exactly when. When my brother phoned me to tell me, I was in the cinema watching Harry Potter Cheesy. We had a big party a month later to celebrate with all the family and friends here, and my brother asked me to make a fun cake for it.

They got married in Brighton, and wanted some reminders of that particular day at the party. There are some brilliant photos of the two of them running around Brigton pier dressed up to the nines, but one of the best had to be my beautiful now sister in law on the carousel in her wedding dress- so the idea of a carousel cake was born.

It took about 3 days altogether, I spent a whole day just making the actual cakes, which was Madeira. I didn't realise how much cake mix a 14" tin holds! Then they had to be shaped, covered in fondant, and painted on with paste icing colours, which I loved doing but was very labour intensive.. The horses are cookies, my very talented brother made these amazing cookie cutters:

These were all iced with royal icing then painted. We then had to get the cake to the site of the party, and I decided to assemble it there as I wasn't sure how sturdy the whole thing would be... so we drove there with these huge cakes on our laps... man those things were heavy!

My brother also made the base and platform thingy you see in this picture. The base had a handle so you could turn the cake and the whole cake turned around. We had a plan to make the horses move up and down as well, but there just wasn't enough time!

Phew! Anyway, here are one or two more photos... enjoy!

14  Dragon Cake for the boyfriend in Dessert by bacettox on: December 22, 2007 12:03:05 PM

My first try using homemade fondant- I love it! Tastes much better than store bought, and is cheaper too.

Made for my cousin's christening- her name is Lilyana.

My first real attempt at origami, but I already love it.

(ignore the brown banana!)

What do you think?

18  Pirate Ship Cake! in Dessert by bacettox on: September 03, 2007 11:26:31 PM
I made my brother a pirate ship cake for his birthday... took forever but he loved it! Sorry the pics are quite big...

Made up completely in my head, didnt follow a tutorial or anything, and the whole thing is edible, except for the lego pirates (the same ones he used to play with when he was little!)

With the birthday message in a bottle!

Ice-cream wafer plank.

Luckily it survived the 2 hour car trip, except the jelly sea melted a bit!

What do you think?

Okay so my sisters boyfriend used to work in Calvin Klein and when they changed over all the mannequins they were throwing the old ones away, and long story short, I now own one. It looks like this..

Sorry about all the mess in my room!

Anyway, i want to do something with it, ill probably just end up painting it all over, ivy leaves etc!! but I was wondering if any crafters had any other ideas? Thanks!
