11  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Rough tough girl stuff on: April 04, 2008 07:07:19 PM
I made this quilt for my coworker's dog.  she's a summer camp director, and the brochure this year was a fushia camoflauge, and at first I wasn't looking for this type of fabric, but when I saw it on clearance, I had a brainstorm.

It's only quilted in about a dozen "spots" or "splotches" of color.  For the green I used a dark green thread, a darker pink on the pink.  The bottom (or back) side is done with all black.  My own dog, Sadie, gave it her seal of approval (a mini nap) and I think Walter, my coworker's puppy, will like it.

12  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / 2 Simple baby quilts on: March 30, 2008 01:11:41 PM
According to wikipedia's def. of quilting, its when you sew two fabrics together, often with batting in the middle, which is what I did here.  So these are pretty simple, I made them much like I do my needle rolls.  I took the fabric, right sides together, and stitched along all 3 sides and 3/4 on the fourth, turned the piece then stitched all the way around.  On this first one, I followed (or tried to) the lines in between the squares and did every other so it wouldn't be too heavy.

For this one, I did the same initial process, then stiched around each square with either blue or red thread, depending on the main color in each square.

I tried to show the detail, but these are pretty simple, and i think they're my first official quilts.  The last thing I posted (disappearing 9 patch 9 patch) is just the pieced top but not quilted.

And yes, I know I should have ironed the fabric, but oh well.  The expecting momma thought they were cute.
13  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Stash busting boyfriend afghan on: February 15, 2008 04:20:56 PM
I really wanted to bust stash, so I made an afghan for my boyfriend's birthday.  they're squares in basketweave stitch, but they're uneven because i did the multiple of 8, but forgot the plus 4 so instead of 4 pairs, i have 3 and an oddball.

its an odd size, shown here on my mom's queen sized bed.  i did a lattice type joining, and unfortunately you can get your feet in there.  Oh well, its now on the couch.

I tried to make it look at least a little manly.
14  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Crazy for Cocktails? on: December 29, 2007 09:14:05 PM
I can't be the only craftster who loves a good cocktail, so who's with me?  Totes with alcoholic fabric (drunk textiles!), wine glass/beer bottle charms, recipe cards, hang over "cures," other accessories?  No shipping of booze, of course, but maybe booze related snacks?   Like beer nuts?  Who's up for it?

16  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Virgin Tote! on: December 28, 2007 04:52:33 PM
I got the print at Joanns a long time ago.  It's Our Lady of Guadeloupe, aka the Virgin Mary.  I thought it'd be perfect for my best friend who spent a year in Mexico and loves the culture.  She also loves handmade things Smiley

The tote pattern is my basic reversible bag and for the Virgin, I cut a backing, stitched it right sides together like a pillow, leaving an opening at the bottom of the design.  Turned it out, stitched it on the outer layer (before any other assembly), found a matching thread and stitched it on, and in doing so closed the opening from the turning at the same time.  I did a little hand stitching at the top left edge where I didn't quite get it stitched with the machine.

Shown with book to demonstrate pocket functionality--I also gave the book to my friend as well.

17  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Felted Scarf on: December 28, 2007 04:47:31 PM
I made this scarf out of Patons Classic Wool in taupe.  I used an L hook in a basketweave pattern.  It's warm but a loose stitch and lets in wind.  My boyfriend really likes it, and he was very intruiged by the felted samples I did for another project, so I threw the scarf in the washer and dryer.  Before  felting:

And after felting:

This yarn is not felting as much as I expected, but then again, maybe its me.  This is the first felted project I've done.  I have something in the dryer now that I washed hot and am drying HOT so we'll see.
18  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Disappearing 9 Patch 9 Patch on: December 28, 2007 04:43:17 PM
Thanks to athenamat for this link:

http://quiltsatcs.blogspot.com/2007/04/disappearing-9-patch-tutorial.html

so I made this:

Bunch of the squares are wonky because I am not very patient so they didn't all get cut to exactly 4" squares.  Once assembled into the 9 patch, I squared 'em off to 10 inches, then made the cuts and turns and restitched to form the disappearing patches.  When I had 9, I put 'em all together.

Oh yeah, I also didn't press any of the seams, so the back is a mess.  I am thinking of just making this bigger and bigger, smacking it on to a backing and calling it done.  Comments appreciated!
19  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Discussion and Questions / to paint on glass on: December 23, 2007 08:40:55 PM
So I have this bottle I'd love to paint, nothing fancy, just paint it, seal it (probably with mod podge or spray) and that'd be it.  What kind of paint can I/should I use?
20  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / charm pack versus squares? on: December 07, 2007 12:47:34 PM
What is the difference, if any, between "charm packs" and just a bundle of squares?  Is there any?

I did try and search, but "charm" pulls up a lot of topics!
