7631  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: One for Me, One for You Swap signups closed! on: August 06, 2008 06:47:10 PM
Someone has received already?!? Yikes! I feel like I am so behind! I have all of my supplies, and all of my tutorials, but just haven't been able to start (after I hurt my back, I had something to finish sewing and I had to stand at the sewing machine to finish it Tongue ). But, after this weekend, I should be good to go- and I only have about 2 weeks to work on it, because I start back at school on the 25th (the kids start after Labor Day).

But, I think that once I get started, I'll be able to finish quickly... I hope Wink

Yay! More cool stuff! I'll be working on mine this weekend (after I finish up my unexpectedly picky online class) and probably (hopefully) posting my pics on Sunday.

Lot's of lovely stuff, here!

And, as for the Tree of Life, pendants. I truly can't decide. I love the contrast of the silver w/the blue beads, but the blue on blue one is striking as well!

Wow! So much awesome stuff has been received- I see a whole bunch of things that I am going to have to be making for myself. And, there are some awesome books that people got!

I was away at a conference, and when I got home about a half an hour ago, I found my package from EowynUlysses!

Three awesome sounding books:

Lady's Maid by Margaret Forster
On Beauty by Zade Smith
Blind Descent by Nevada Barr

I wish I had had one of them with me at my conference! I couldn't get my laptop to connect to the internet, so a book would have been lovely...

Then, she made me a set of book quotes in frames for me to hang on the wall in my "book room." I also made her something (note cards) with book quotes, so it's kind of funny! And, I had one card that I botched, and it was the quote by Arnold Lobel that she sent me!

The quotes:
"The love of learning, the sequestered nooks, and all the sweet serenity of books!" -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
"A book is a garden, an orchard, a storehouse, a party, a company by the way, a multitude of counselors" - Henry Ward Beecher
"Books to the Ceiling, books to the sky, My pile of books is a mile high. How I love them! How I need them! I'll have a long beard by the time I read them." - Arnold Lobel

Thanks for swapping with me EowynUlysses!

I'll be making and posting my item next weekend. I had waaaay too much to do this weekend to get it started, and I'll be away from my supplies for the next few days. So, Saturday it is!

Yay!

I was planning to make some bookplates for my partner, but I felt guilty doing it... I don't use bookplates myself and asked her not to make me any. Didn't seem right to then turn around and make them for her Tongue

Even though I did end up making her one other thing I asked not to get... Wink

I'll be away for a couple of days (but I think I'll have internet), so I won't be able to craft. But, I can check to see what everyone else has crafted!

The hat is adorable, and I like the designs on the bookmarks! Neat book selection. After the last book swap I did, I decided to give the Discworld series a go. I just finished Equal Rites and I really enjoyed it! I'm not a huge sci-fi/fantasy reader (which is strange, because I'm a big science geek, and I love science fiction movies and TV... Fantasy for me is a separate category, I guess...).

I was just in the thrift store and I picked up a canister- it has a white lid with some 70's kitchen fruits & vegetables design on it. So, I'll have to get a little crafty on it first Smiley

And, as I arrived home after another summer rain shower, I realized that this is the year for moss in my yard! It's been so damp, I'm seeing moss in places I've never seen it before! So, I should have no trouble with my harvesting!

You know, I guess I didn't really realize how very DIFFERENT these can all be.  I mean, it was something I knew, but seeing all of the different dolls really makes that sink in.  Wow.

They are all so great!  I love them.  I love how unique and personal they all are.  Smiley

What clever ideas!  Cheesy  Mine, I'm afraid, don't really have a very strong theme.  I just kind of embellished based upon the fabrics I chose to work with.

I'm also pretty impressed and inspired! Unfortunately, I'm too far in to my current batch to change direction, but perhaps if I sign up for a future round, I can think a bit more out of the box for the next crop of dolls!

Love the pirate and the kitty! And, the Wonder Woman made me laugh out loud, as did the peg leg on the pirate, Sarcastra.

Such happiness from such tiny creations...

Holy cow, I love that journal! I love that the stamps are hand carved, and I love the 5-star rating system, and the tabs on the edge! I'm definitely going to have to steal that idea for something else...since I don't use book journals... (The gears are turning...maybe I could make one as an "index" to my favorite recipes in my cookbooks. Then, I could record the recipe, the book it came from, and the page number. I could even use a rating system! And, I could divide it up into tabbed sections like Appetizers, Desserts, etc. Oh, I am so making one of these!!! Thanks for the inspiration!!!   Okay, back to the swap at hand...)

The carved book plate stamps are also a cool idea! The next time I give a book as a gift, I might have to include one of these. In fact, I have to make a gift for a young friend pretty soon... I think some stamp carving might be in order, here... Thanks again for the inspiring idea!!
