phoenixfiredesigns, I just LOVE that pendant! So, if you made one, I'd be very happy to have the chance to get it Wink
6983  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Completed Projects / Re: Card woven band on: October 18, 2008 02:09:32 PM
You can use all kinds of materials. For your first band, I recommend a durable material, because you might sometimes want to unweave and reweave a part, and that stresses the yarn. Cotton works fine, for example.
On the other hand, I also recommend you to use a yarn that you like the touch of. The more fun you have weaving your bands, the better. That's why I don't use cotton that often, and rather go for wool. Wool is also more dynamic when it comes to holding tension. I did my first band in wool, but I don't recommend it as a beginner's yarn. It depends a lot on the quality of your wool.
I also hoarded cotton embroidery floss for card weaving because of the shining colors Smiley but I haven't tried it yet. I guess it'll make very nice bands.

Thanks for the info! I was wondering how well embroidery floss would work. I'll have to start exploring the fibers that are available to me...
6984  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Knitty's Versatility for Crochet? on: October 16, 2008 04:53:40 PM
Does Bernat's Softee Chunkee come in pink? I don't wear much pink, but I wore a pink shirt yesterday (basic polo shirt) and got a ton of compliments  on it, so I'm thinking I need to wear some more pink Wink

And, now that I've actually got the pattern, I'm dying to try this out!!

ETA: I just found some "Antique Rose" online (on sale, even!) and ordered 5 skeins. I'll make a hat or something with the extra, but I don't want to run out!
6985  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Undies Swap - My Fave Themes .:CLOSED:. on: October 16, 2008 04:47:35 PM
I'm going to have to wait until Monday to send out my undies as I can't go shopping until tomorrow. This week has been both so long and also "how's it already Thursday?" But I do have ideas churning for my partner's sets.

Whew! Because I don't have time to work on them, yet! I really need to learn how to say "No" to things at work- I just loaded myself up with a tutoring gig, co-chairing the science night, helping to negotiate a part of our contract and something almost every weekend until mid-November!

But, I plan to get to the PO tomorrow. I may not have a chance until Saturday night to PM the DC#, though.

I have plenty of ideas, I just need to figure out which ones I can actually do...

Wow!! That is really creative craftADDchick.  You and I should hang out (except that you are so far away). Wink  I was going to arrange my granny daughters completely random with the Red Heart Kids Cruise Blue as my background color.  I am not changing my mind on my background color, but now I am rethinking how I might arrange my granny daughters.  You totally rock craftADDchick.

I'm blushing!

I love the gnome painting! I'm not a huge fan of gnomes (not that I hate them, I just don't love them...), but I'd totally hang this painting up! I love the tree and the birds!

I might be able to work on my item this weekend... Even though I already posted a pic of it, I still need to make them all Wink
6988  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Completed Projects / Re: Made a Kumihimo disk on: October 16, 2008 04:32:45 PM
There's another post about Kumihimo cords and braids:
https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=170388.0

and it inspired me to buy a bunch of stuff to try it. I even bought some of the extra thick foam to make my own disk. But, I haven't done it yet Tongue

You have rekindled my desire to give this a go! And, now that I have a disk pattern, I am one step closer to actually doing it Wink

Thanks a bunch!

Ruby Copperhead- Thanks for the encouragement! I have a book on card weaving that I borrowed from the art teacher at school, but I just haven't had a chance to try it out. I need to pick up the right weaving material, and when I'm at the store, I never remember what it is I should buy. Would embroidery floss work for a small band?

The birthday gifts I needed to make this weekend can be postponed (one is for Saturday, but one of the items didn't arrive in time), and the party for the other 2 isn't next Saturday like I expected. So, I might actually get to start on the large item this weekend! In my head, it is awesome, and I hope I can execute the plan as well as I imagine Wink
