6801  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Granny's Daughters Swap Round 2- Signups Jan. 3-24, 2009; Closing 6 PM EST 1/24 on: January 23, 2009 07:23:52 PM
I won't be home at 6 pm tomorrow to close sign-ups, as it turns out, but I'll close them as soon as I get home, and get you partners on Sunday morning. Yay!

Yay! Another great link.

ETA...again...
And, I just impulse bought this  Tongue  Grin :
Beyond the Square Crochet Motifs by Edie Eckman

Ideally, this is what I want.  I just did my taxes online and it cost me $70  Shocked .  Yikes!!  I tried to choose the cheaper option, but they charged me for the more expensive option I used last year (except it was a lot cheaper last year Tongue).  Anyways, before this swap gets going, I should have my refunds and though most of it has to play catch up in paying bills I am getting painfully behind in (  Cry ), I'll be getting enough to splurge on a couple of books. Smiley

I hear ya'! Fortunately, I just picked up a brief tutoring gig that should net me about $100... so I could splurge just a teeny bit Wink

ooooo, good sites. Both had different pinwheel motifs that were nice. I was looking through the 200 block book I had gotten for the granny square swap, and noticed that if I followed just the first parts of a pattern, I could have some nice shaped, small motifs.

Hmmm... I have a 200 block book, too... That's a great idea to use just the center portion... Well, now I'll really have a lot of choices! Grin
6803  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Mr. Minty Amigurumi- Now with Pattern! on: January 23, 2009 07:15:35 PM
I found out today that I needed a few Christmas gifts for tomorrow (I wasn't able to get together with a friend before the holidays), and for my friend's daughter, I bought a learn to crochet kit. But, it seemed a bit lacking in the excitement factor (hard to believe, I know), so I crocheted up an example of something that she can learn how to make.

I named him Mr. Minty, because I used mint green yarn (it was handy) for his hair... yes, I am clever  Wink

After I finished him, and gave his pom-pom hair a trim, he was lacking in some way. I put his eyes up a bit higher than I should have, and he had a bit too much face... so I made him a nose...

I like him much better now...  Grin

And, I didn't use a pattern, but I took notes as I went, so I can type them out later if anyone wants...

Here's the pattern! It hasn't been tested by anybody else, so if you find any problems, please let me know so I can make corrections.

Mr. Minty Amigurumi

Materials used:
Small amount of worsted weight acrylic yarn (white for body, mint green for hair)
Size G crochet hook
Pair of 12 mm plastic safety eyes
Yarn needle
Small amount of polyester fiberfil

Notes: Mr. Minty is worked in a spiral. Do not join at the end of each round. I use a stitch marker to mark the last stitch of each round.

Directions:
Start with a magic ring. Great instructions for a magic ring can be found here.

Body
Round 1: 6 sc into ring. (6 sc)
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)
Round 3: * 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. (18 sc)
Round 4: *2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Repeat from * around. (24 sc)
Round 5: *2sc in first sc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc. Repeat from * around. (30 sc)

Round 19: * 1 sc in next sc, sc 2 together for a decrease. Repeat from * around. (12 sc)

Insert eyes (or embroider features) and  stuff body. Mr. Mintys eyes are inserted into Round 16.

Round 20: *1 sc in next sc, sc 2 together for a decrease. Repeat from * around. (6 sc)
Round 21: 1 sc in next sc, sc 2 together for a decrease. Repeat from * around.  Finish off leaving tail to. Add more stuffing, if needed. Use tail to weave opening closed. Lose tail ends in the body.

Round 1: 6 sc into ring. (6 sc)
Round 2: *1 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. (9 sc)
Rounds 3-5: 1 sc in each stitch around. (9 sc)
Finish off, leaving tail to sew to body. Sew nose to body slightly below the eyes. Lose tail ends in the body.

Oooh! That's a good site! I had a site with tons of squares, but I can't find it... I tried searching for some, but didn't have much luck with a quick search...

ETA: I did just find this...

6805  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: 2009 12" Squares- January on: January 23, 2009 03:40:02 PM
Don't despair. As of Christmas, I had only gotten through August myself. I powered through my last 8 squares and then all the assembly in under two weeks. Once you start doing the joining it goes super fast.

Ah, this gives me hope that I'll actually finish...

I'm supposed to be finishing a swap tonight, but I have some emergency gifts to make. I think that, when I finish, I'll work on the February square so I can finish trying it out. Then, I can start August '08 Wink

Oh! It looks different than I expected (Dudessembly, I mean). One of these days, I'll get enough squares finished to attempt the assembly process... I have 5 more squares to go from the '08 CAL. I finally finished July, but I still have to weave in the ends. I'll move on to August soon. I'd like to finish it up and give it to my neighbor while it is still cold enough for her to use it!

Ooooh! Pretty, GatsbyGirl! What method is that that you're using to join them? It's pretty!

Oh, man! I was thinking of skipping out on this round, but I'm seeing so much great stuff (and lusting over lafemmefatale's pendant/earrings set), that I'm torn! If I get my MAJOR task finished tomorrow night, I will finally allow myself to do some other crafting, so this swap could  be happening...
