1  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Donations for Literacy Auction on: June 17, 2009 10:34:02 AM
I wonder if some of you guys might be able to help me. This year Im running The Year of Readers (http://yearofreaders.blogspot.com), a year long, online sponsored read-a-thon where readers collect money for various literacy charities. Not only is each participant working to raise money for a worthy cause, but each book an official participant reads earns Eco-Libris (an organization that plants trees) a penny from my own pocket.

Were doing well with some participants collecting as much as $200 in sponsorship and the total of books just keeps growing. However a few of our readers have had trouble getting sponsors and are currently sponsoring themselves. In order to raise as much money as possible for charity Id like to hold some silent auctions via Justgiving to boost some of our readers sponsorship totals.

Ill personally be donating a signed copy of Joe Hills Heart Shaped Box and a signed copy of Robin Jarvis The Ravens Knot but we need some more fantastic items, which is where I hope some of you might be able to help.

It would be wonderful if some of you would consider donating some cool handcrafted items that can be auctioned off to raise funds for charity. All sorts of items would be great: jewellery, journals, bags, pottery etc but they must be ok to go through the post. We really hope to raise lots of money for charities helping kids and adults learn to read.

You can see the fundraising pages of the people whose totals Im trying to increase here: http://bookgazing.blogspot.com/2009/06/yera-of-readers-fundraising-...
I hope to be able to hold one auction for each of these readers.

I would be so grateful if you were able to help out. The auction will run sometime in August and you can contact me here by email at bakerjodie at googlemail dot com if you're interested in helping out. Thanks so much for reading.

I'm running a year long event in 2009 called The Year of Readers where readers raise funds for different literary charities. To reward and encourage my readers I want to have a prize draw for a fun crafty bag each month. I'd love to have Craftsters contribute to this bag and get themselves a little bit of exposure.

I'm looking for crafters who can contribute 12 items (one for ecah month) no bigger than A6 size. The items need to arrive in the UK by Jan 1st next year (or end of Jan if you see this after the Christmas posting deadline has passed). Any items would be appreciated but bookish items will go down especially well.

Check out the website at http://yearofreaders.blogspot.com or e-mail me at bakerjodie at googlemail dot com . Also I'd love to see Crafters sign up to take part in the event (sign up via the blog to get your sponsorship form).

Really like the black dragon, does he have material hair? The witch bowls would be great for Halloween treats.
