Oh, so cute! I love the gray! I'm jealous of your perfect buttons. Wink

i was also thinking of using the Peruvian Sierra from Elann, the colors are all gorgeous, so much that i can't pick one!

I've never used the yarn before, but Italian Plum is especially gorgeous!

Has anybody found any good 1.25" buttons yet? I can't seem to find any I like, it seems to be a bit of an uncommon size.

I also started knitting this over the weekend, but the yarn I had just wasn't working out. (I bought it to use for another project anyway, so I don't feel too bad about it.) I broke down and ordered some Peruvia in Caliente and I want to start as soon as it comes. Smiley I'm excited to hear that it's enjoyable and goes fast.

I third the welcome! Smiley

As for the stockinette, I agree, the curling really shouldn't be a problem. What I'm most worried about is the bottom of the "skirt", but we'll just have to see what happens there, I guess. Blocking the heck out of it is always an option.

Does anyone have any idea how much ease this sweater is supposed to have? My yarn should be here today, and I'm trying to decide which size to make. It looks fairly close-fitting, but the only options I have are my exact bust measurement, or one four inches larger. What do you guys think?
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: What yarn did you use for Clapotis? on: August 06, 2007 07:45:47 AM
I'm making one right now, and I'm using Malabrigo worsted in a pink variegated color. It's quite vibrant, and the yarn knits up really soft and squishy in this pattern, which I like. It is a bit of a pain in the butt to drop the stitches, but so far it's totally worth the hassle.
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: How do self-striping yarns work? on: August 06, 2007 06:11:19 AM
Self-striping and variegated yarns are going to self-stripe and variegate no matter what gauge you get, but that doesn't mean that gauge doesn't matter. Gauge does matter. What it means when it says that it can be between two different numbers is that you can use different needle sizes, get between those two gauges, and still have a nice fabric. For example, if it said that the suggested gauge was between 4 and 5 stitches to the inch, you could get 4 stitches to the inch, 5 stitches to the inch and anything in between, such as 4.5 stitches to the inch.

I hope that helps!  Smiley

I'm totally in! I just ordered some purple Skye Tweed from WEBS for this project and I want to start it as soon as it comes. I knew I had to make it as soon as I saw the preview pic, and I was super excited when I found the issue out early at my LYS this afternoon. I'm so in love with this sweater, it's ridiculous.

That's really fantastic. I adore the texture.
