1  Re: Problem with your machine? CHECK HERE FIRST! How to properly insert your bobbin. in Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions by Kiwi on: April 02, 2011 07:17:23 AM
Okay, posting here is my last straw with my Kenmore. I've been working on it for two weeks and haven't had any luck whatsoever. I know how to sew basic stitches, but I don't know anything about machine functions or machine repair.

It will not pick up the bobbin thread. I've done everything - rethreaded it, changed needles, took the entire bobbin shuttle case out and put it back together, but nothing works.

It honestly looks like the needle is not reaching the bobbin thread - like it's not long enough. However, I am using the needles that actually came with the machine, so I know they are the right size.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe I didn't put everything back together correctly. I've watched oodles of YouTube videos and read tons of how-to instructions, both offline and online.

On a related note, this is a lower model machine that I received as a gift a few years ago. Since repair costs would be as much as the machine costs, would it be better to just buy a new machine?

2  Would like to rearrange furniture, but living room has no walls... in Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions by Kiwi on: March 04, 2009 09:18:22 AM
I want to rearrange my living room, but I have no idea how to.

Basically, I don't really have any walls in my living room. One wall there are nothing but doors that lead to the garage, the other a giant window, the other only a fireplace and the hallway, and the other wall is open to the kitchen and dining room.

Here are a couple from when I first moved in a couple of years ago:

And here is the furniture I have now:

I'd really like to move the furniture around somehow, but I don't have a clue as to how to make it look good... help!

3  Just a couple of skirts in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Kiwi on: October 31, 2007 10:44:40 AM
A few years ago, I had a thing for skirts. I guess because they were easy and inexpensive to make. I made these before I knew what I was doing, so I'll admit, my mom helped tremendously! Matter of fact, I mostly just designed them and picked out the fabric! Smiley

4  Custom Lightsaber Hilt in Completed Projects by Kiwi on: October 11, 2007 05:35:36 PM
A few years ago when Episode 3 came out, my friends and I decided to make our very own lightsaber hilts. Of course, being girly, I had to make mine pink. With rhinestones.

After a trip to the hardware store and some PVC pipe, I came up with...

My cat just had to be in the picture!

Apparently people even have businesses customizing these things!

5  My Ratatouille-esque kitchen! (Pic Heavy - may cause dial-up death) in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by Kiwi on: October 08, 2007 06:38:13 PM
My husband and I bought our first house this summer and, after one trip to the Disney Store, I knew exactly what I wanted for our kitchen.

The tiny, but satisfying, kitchen:

Chef Gustav watches over my cooking.

The two shades I chose. I actually didn't plan on doing the border, but I layered the paint on way too thick and it was peeling really bad at the edges.

Disney's Emile spoon rest.

The Ratatouille recipe box.

Disney, again.

This pot holder rug was totally inspired by: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=116528.0 I highly recommend padding under the rug, because it can be very slippery!

Now, here is where I have saved the best for last. I can not take credit for this, as it goes to Disney and my mother-in-law.

All of the Ratatouille artwork is from The Art of Ratatouille. My mother-in-law totally free-handed them. She's amazing  Smiley

Well, that's my kitchen. I'm hitting "Post" now, and praying these pics work!

Thanks for looking!!!  Grin

6  Painting a mantel... (updated with pic) in Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions by Kiwi on: October 08, 2007 05:58:29 PM
My mantel is solid white. Blinding white. The walls are beige and all of the baseboard, the doors and the door trim are also solid, blinding white.

Would it look stupid if I painted just the mantel a shade of brown? (Haven't really decided what shade). On one hand, I think it would make it look more expensive, but I dunno if it'd match the rest of the house!

7  Beaded Napkin Rings in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by Kiwi on: March 24, 2007 03:57:04 PM
I was looking through The Michael's Book of Crafts yesterday and I found this really cute idea for napkin rings. It looked easy enough, so I got out all of my old beads from the Chinese bracelet craze a few years ago and made them in 10 minutes. I'm sure this has been done before and it's nothing special, but I figured I'd share anyways  Grin

And since I don't actually own any cloth napkins, here they are modeling this lovely paper towel.

8  First Cards! in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by Kiwi on: March 07, 2007 08:11:00 AM
I recently got a handcrafted card in the mail... and it was so cute. I tried making a couple of collage cards last night. It's my first time making them, so they aren't anything special. I just used some old cardstock and not actual cards or anything. Critique is welcome!

This one is blurry, but the text at the bottom says "Let them eat cake"

Sorry my digi cam sucks at close ups!
