1  coffee filter dress! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by htking on: September 21, 2008 01:37:37 PM
So my roommate and I went to a friend's birthday "anything but clothes party," where the "dress code" was to wear things not traditionally clothing focused. up to the challenge, i decided to make a dress out of coffee filters!

Using lots of tape, I made lines of filters and taped the lines in an overlapping fashion to make a big rectangle, plus a few for the "top:"

Since you can't just wrap a rectangle around, I made a bustle to cover up the back side...same idea: I folded the filters into triangles and staggered/taped them together:

I then taped the bustle to the "rectangle," wrapped it around and taped it together on myself & was ready to go out!

It held up surprising well considering it was rainy outside, and it only got crinkled up when I finally sat down...and later cut it off myself to put on regular clothes haha Smiley

2  Re: 2007 Completed Costumes Scrapbook! (completed project pictures & links go here!) in Halloween Costumes by htking on: October 26, 2007 03:58:18 PM
My roommates and I are all dressing up as Harry Potter characters. I'm pretty psyched to be Hermione! Smiley

Anyhoo, I will just be wearing a gray skirt & white buttondown, but in true craftster style, I bought us solid color ties from Walmart and used masking tape to make my own striped Hogwarts ties!

Happy Halloween guys!!

4  Re: Come one come all post your new tattoo IDEAS! in Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions by htking on: July 28, 2005 06:09:02 PM
i think if i ever got a tattoo it'd be henna or something not as permanent...however i still love looking at pics of people's tattoos (bmezine, etc) just to see what people choose.

once my sister had a dream that she got a tattoo that looked like this:

i always thought that was pretty neat.

5  Crazy Bo-Peep! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by htking on: July 26, 2005 05:40:38 PM

This is from this pattern: http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4825.htm
The fabric I had was annoying so I got frustrated and decided not to make the top part, but just make it into a skirt. It's basically a circle skirt (which you can find tutorials for all over craftster) with 3 layers and a band on top for tying.

Reminds me of Little Bo Peep.....but slightly odd-er:

7  go go GADGET PURSE! (fairly image heavy) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by htking on: June 24, 2005 05:03:15 PM
inspiration? "i'm-sick-of-having-to-dig-thru-a-bag-to-find-stuff." solution? one giant wallet-y purse to hold all of my neccessities.

finished project:

opened up:

& with additional area:

if anyone would like a tutorial, request it and i can try to type out the directions....here are the materials since you all are smart & could probably work from that. the white layer is interfacing.

A= front, back, and lining of basic rectangle
C= material for handles
D= material for row of pockets
E= flap to cover it all

***tips: if any one attempts to make this, i'd place the handles somehwere different than i have, as my design is to front heavy. also, sew the row of pockets to the appropriate A piece before sewing it all together so you can have the inner part open.

good luck & happy crafting!
