1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Best Fabric Paint for Pillow? on: January 06, 2012 12:37:42 PM
Hello! I wasn't sure whether to post this here or another category so my apologies if this is in the wrong place!

I'm leaving to study abroad for six months in just over a week and I just had the idea to make my boyfriend and I matching pillowcases before I go. I just want to do a simple continuous design that spans both pillowcases so I can take one with me and he can have one here. My only issue is that a lot of the fabric paint I have used in the past has left fabric crunchy or otherwise unpleasant (although I've never worked with pillowcases before). I'm planning on getting simple cotton pillowcases but may end up with a silkier material if it works out that way.

Assuming I'm working with cotton or a cotton blend (although I'll take suggestions for all fabric types that a pillowcase might be!), what is a good brand of fabric paint that will result in pillowcases soft enough to sleep on?

2  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Scrapbooking: Discussion and Questions / Christmas Cards & Embossing Help? on: November 02, 2009 10:27:20 AM
Two things.

I'm relatively new to card making and scrapbooking. I have a Cricut Expression which I'm learning to use and having a ton of fun with. With Christmas coming up, I'm already making some cards but I have an enormous family and I don't want to be repeating the same cards over and over again. I've browsed the cards over at the Cricut forum and a few of the members' personal sites, but does anyone have an exhaustive gallery of holiday cards made with the Cricut? If not, what are your favorite sites to get inspiration from?

Secondly, I love the way embossing looks. I want to get into it. I've heard a lot of people rave about the Cuttlebug, but I'm not convinced yet. Have any of you had good experiences with it? How exactly does it work? What are my other options as far as machines/tools for embossing go?

Sorry if these have been asked recently. I searched the forum but the answers I found were outdated or not exactly tailored to what I'm looking for.

3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Mother's Day / Lady Bug Lover? on: April 03, 2008 04:19:14 PM
My boyfriend's mom has been more of a mother to me than my own for the past two years. Last mother's day I was out of the country, so I just sent her a card and some flowers. I want to do something special for her this year.

She really loves lady bugs (it has to do with her own mother and some stuff that happened a long time ago) so one of the things I got her for Christmas were some lady bug magnets ... I am at a complete loss as to what to do for mother's day. She's the nicest lady and always makes me feel like I'm part of the family. She does the most random cute things (like buying me a potted four leaf clover for St. Patrick's day this year) so I know she'll appreciate something cute like that. Let's see ... We live in Florida. She loves to read. I'm not the craftiest person, but I love paper crafts and I can sort of sew -- at the very least, I can enlist the help of my grandmother.

Any suggestions?
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / hoodie dress help? on: July 13, 2007 08:49:16 PM
Let me start out by saying I have little to no sewing experience. I've hand sewed a few things before, but nothing like this.

I have this amazing slightly stretchy material that I want to make a hoodie out of. Actually, I guess I want to make a hoodie dress, but whatever. I have no idea how to go about it. The only hoodie pattern I could find was for a big puffy one and, since I have no idea how to go about modifying them, isn't any help to me. I'm going to be using my mother's sewing machine & I'll have her advice at my disposal, but she's not exactly up to date on things like this.

This is exactly what I'd like to make.

Any ideas?
5  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / *HELP --> Judy Funnie Costume. on: October 16, 2006 04:09:47 PM
For Halloween, I am wanting to be Judy Funnie from Doug ... Nickelodeon version, of course. I'm fine on the leggings, shirt, boots and sunglasses, but I absolutely cannot find a purple beret or sweater dress. I've already checked the Salvation Army & Thriftko. I've found a purple beret on Ebay but it's $25 and I'd like to find something for less, if possible.

If anyone knows where I can find a purple beret or sweater dress for relatively cheap, or has a pattern to make either, please please please let me know?

Thank you.
