1  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / My first ever piece of wet felted felt...tartan my way! on: September 04, 2007 07:22:45 AM
Well, I was at a study weekend at my local church and as part of our activities we had lots of cool activities to do which included basket weaving, mud brick making, pottery, woodworking, spinning...and FELTING! I had been drooling over all the amazing wet felted stuff ont his board and I knew I had to have a go! So I decided to cram as much colour into it as possible and then I was inspired to go for a tartan design. I LOVE IT! I need to try this again...I'll have to buy some supplies first. I'm thinking of making a little coin purse out of this piece but I may not be able to bring myself to put a needle and thread to it...!
Here it is!

And here's the back...

And here it is held up to the sun so you can see how I didn't really think about the thickness...next time I'll make the back colour a lot thicker...

I think I'm gonna take it with me to bed...I can snuggle up to it's  softness...

Oh and I guess I should tell you about what it's got in it...wool roving, silk and wool yarn. And I made it on bubble-wrap.

I really love this piece of felt! What do you all think? Cheesy
2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Embroider a page for a sampler book swap! on: August 08, 2007 10:17:37 PM
I was just browsing through the Tea Towel Tour Swap Gallery and drooling over the beautiful embroidery...but I was thinking that I couldn't bear to actually use a tea towel for fear of ruination!

So then I had to think about what other ways you could have a swap where you received multiple beautifully embroidered items...and then I thought...EUREKA! We could have a set size of a page (I'm thinking smallish...so we can get more pages...Cheesy) and by the end of the swap everyone would have a certain amount of beautifully embroidered 'pages' for a book (I'm not entirely sure how exactly to put together a book..but it couldn't be too hard!) You could also hide the backs of the embroidery if you wanted by sewing the pages back to back...

Of course, if you were so inclined you could use the pages as patches for other things such a bags or clothes! And we could choose themes...or do alphabet books...the possibilities are endless!

What do you all think?? Cheesy
3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / I made a stationery set...with my original character Little Big Head :D on: June 19, 2007 12:23:48 AM
Yeah, that's pretty much it...I am very proud of this and I am thinking of making more and maybe one day in the future I will try and sell some...but for now w have some pics!

The paper...10 sheets of lovely watermarked paper, each with a different Little Big Head design and colored with pencils...

And the envelopes...just some plain white ones with Little Big Head on the front and a small picture on the back. They match up with the paper. There are 10 of these as well...

So there you have it...and I apologise for the crummy photos, I had to up the contrast on them cos they were very dark...but the colours are pretty true to life...

What do you think?

Cheesy I like them Cheesy
4  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / How do you interpret THIS?? on: June 11, 2007 11:46:35 PM
I came across the cutest hat in the world...in the cutest yarn ever...

And if you click on 'print' on that page, you can download some sort of a chart...does anyone know how to read it??

I love this hat...and it's winter here so it'd be a perfect opportunity to make something cute and warm!

Help! Cheesy
5  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Bjork and crazy freeform crochet...wow. on: June 10, 2007 04:04:40 AM
My older brother just called my attention to some pictures of Bjork he saw on the apple.com site (he likes apples and he likes Bjork...he's a pretty cool brother!)...
These are the pics from the apple site...

OH my goodness. Bjork is so damn cool. Just lookit all the pictures...they speak for themselves!!

So I went on a google adventure armed with the words 'Bjork' and 'crochet'. Wow...I'll let you see...one of these is apparently her latest album cover or a promo image(I'm not entirely sure this is true...but you can see some more crochet anyway)

So apparently google tells me that Bjork did not crochet these herself but a group called the "Icelandic Love Corporation" made all these costumes. Aren't they awesome?? Here is their website http://ilc.is/ILC/index.html I am still looking through the site...they have some more crochet stuff and other crazy costume, performance and installation art works. I think they live in freeform crochet costumes. Smiley I was just so excited by the awesome freeform crochet I just had to share!

What do you all think? Go forth and make crazy crochet...let your creative juices flow and release your inhibitions!

...Bjork is so cool. The world would be boring without her and artists like the Icelandic Love Corporation.  Cheesy
6  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / A little skeleton bear!! on: May 21, 2007 02:50:36 AM
I hadn't posted anything in a while...and then I decided to post this little guy I made a while ago. He's not actually finished - I cut out little arm & leg bones for him but I haven't sewn them on. But you get the idea. He's based on Baby London Star's pattern http://members.shaw.ca/plushie/moogle/ there but I omitted all the moogly bits Cheesy. I have made the moogle before and he turned out quite cute. Anyway, I recommend that pattern to everyone.

He's all handsewn felt with little jointed arms and legs. The photography isn't stunning and I apologise, nothing beats real sunlight - but it's night and I have to make do with a flash. Sad

But anyway, what do you think? I was thinking of making my own little bear/cat/rabbit pattern so I could make up my own little skeleton creatures to sell one day. I hope to have an etsy shop one day...but for now I will make things at my leisure! I could even turn a few of them in day of the dead style creatures like the big one I made for a swap once...http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/54107236/?qo=4&q=by%3Apaperdaisies&qh=sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps but obviously a lot smaller.

Haha, sorry, I got a case of the rambles...I'd love to hear what you all think!

ps. I know, his ears are pointy like a kitty. But I maintain that he is a bear. Cheesy
7  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / Paperdaisies' very own ATC gallery! on: March 29, 2007 06:39:29 PM
So I caved. I decided I wanted to have a place to share all the ATCs I have made. I hope you all don't mind that I am adding yet another ATC gallery! I have other cards posted in the 100 Themes Gallery, I'm not sure if I should post them here too. So for now we will have cards not made for the 100 Theme Challenge. You've probably seen a few of them before...

So, here is my first ever ATC. Skull Squiggles

Here are some I did just for fun...

Here are two that I made for a swap on another site. I am making 7 more in a similar style (most of them are waiting to be coloured...)

So what do you think? Do you want to see more? Cheesy
8  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Tiger bunny wreaking havoc!! on: March 23, 2007 07:22:18 AM
So I hadn't made anything for me lately cos I've been doing lots of stuffies for swaps! And I wanted to use some of the fabric from my fabric chest...so I came up with this little psycho...I didn't come up with a cool name...so for now he is Tiger Bunny!

Tiger Bunny wouldn't sit still for a portrait so I chased him around the house while he was doing his crazy stuff...

In true craftster style Tiger Bunny likes running with scissors...although I'm not so sure about having those sharp scissors around those power cords...

The next time I ran into him I found him grinning evilly inside the new computer!! This was a close call...

He's not all bad...he gave me a flower! ...but I was a little suspicious due to his grin...but he just looked too cute!

...and in true Aussie style, I found him hiding in the fridge ready to gobble up all the yummy vegemite! Grin

Little (cute) terror Tiger bunny is handsewn out of cotton and filled with polyfill and I made his face out of felt and I embroidered his mouth...and I have to admit, his eyes are just pins...I am going to buy some eyes...or black beads tomorrow. I have to admit, I prefer working with felt but I love the tiger print, next time, I'll use a sewing machine! But I was excited and I took some pictures in between episodes of Family Guy. Tiger Bunny is watching very attentively (probably taking lessons from Stewie!)

Comments, criticism...laughs...all welcome!

9  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Mini plushie/stuffy swap anyone? on: March 11, 2007 06:35:18 AM
I love mini things, especially cute little tiny plushies! Plus, they will cost less postage-wise! What more could you want?

I am thinking mini as in a maximum of 3" (8cm) high although, the smaller the better. I am also thinking of highly detailed plushies. But I'm up for feedback and suggestions...

I guess this is similar to the Felt Mascot/Stuffy swap...only smaller!

10  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / 100 themes challenge/idea/ATC-along on: March 03, 2007 10:21:40 PM
I have to date, made only one ATC. I have wanted to make more but have had trouble getting inspiration....so in my search for inspration I came across his '100 themes' challenge on deviantart. It's basically a list of 100 suggested themes and you do an artwork for each theme. The challenge is to do all 100 themes. I thought that this idea would be awesome for ATCs...I don't know how it could be done...maybe an ATC-along  (2 per week or something) or a swap (although I still haven't quite wrapped my head around how ATC swaps work...)

So here is the very long list...please, tell me what you think... Grin Suggestions please!
