1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Alternative to plastic produce bags? on: April 03, 2008 07:34:28 AM
I buy a lot of produce at the grocery in the winter, and would like an alternative to the clear plastic bags you put the produce in. I like keeping produce organized, and I don't want something that weighs much. My husband hates it when I put produce in my cart, then on the belt and scale to be handled by the cashier.  If anyone has some great ideas please let me know!

I have never done a swap before, but thought that this would be really fun.  I like the idea of my daughter getting handmade Easter gifts from the Bunny and possibly items that may not be available in my area of the US.  Just an idea! I suppose you could do this for adults too being as we mom's (and dad's) usually have to stuff our own baskets (if we are lucky enough to get one).

My two month old was born with a head full of hair, now it is almost in her eyes and I want some cute clips or berets for her hair. Any ideas? I have heard of using velcro and I thought of glueing bows to it. Here are some cute ones I saw, but way overpriced:


Any ideas where to get maybe little baby clips to decorate? Or even just cheaper already made clips? I can't seem to find any anywhere.

So for Christmas, I want to make my mom a really kick-ass tool bag for her gardening supplies.  I have seen some really tiny ones at hardware stores, and was wondering if anyone had any excellent ideas or patterns.  I was going to look for some thick canvas bags/denim at local thrift stores for material. I want it to be super organized/functional and easy to carry. I want to make it very feminine.  I was thinking of filling it with tools that have pretty ribbons or decoupaged handles. If anyone has awesome ideas, I would be enthralled!

I saw this beautiful ornament collection:


I thought it would make an awesome gift for newlyweds... Does anyone have any ideas on how to make ornaments corresponding with this theme? I was considering using Sculpey Clay... I have also seen cross stitch patterns for them, but do not really want cross stitch ornaments.  Any ideas would be great.

So I don't know if anyone has started a DC craft group of anytype, but I would love to be a part of one/help start one. I am really interested in learning new crafts/teaching things I know. I really want to knit/crochet, but am desperate for a mentor... my "knitting made easy" guide just doesn't do it for me.  I love exchanging ideas, etc. Let me know if anyone is interested. THanks!

So my pictures aren't THE BEST... but it is a courderoy, messenger style bag, that looks better when it is full. More accessories to come.

As you can see, we are going with a forest animal theme. Any great ideas would be appretiated. There is also a changing pad, not pictured that velcros to the outside of the bag.

So I was thinking of making a bouquet similar to this one for the 4 women at my work who are having babies:


Any ideas on how to put it together? I haven't bought any supplies yet, but would you think the leaves are fake flower leaves? I am considering cutting out some felt leaves with pinking shears. I figure that it will be a little bit of trial and error.
I work at an animal hospital so I was also thinking of including some felt cat and dog stuffies and maybe make some iron-on sayings with my printer or with the iron-on crayons (appropriate for baby) that read, "my mom saves animals" "my mom helps sick puppies" "I love puppies/kitties". I might include some bibs/burp cloths made with cat and dog material. Any other great ideas? I am trying to keep this inexpensive, but completely unique and lovable. I was also trying to think of an animal-themed gift for mom maybe. Any ideas/suggestions would be great! Thanks!

So I know absolutely nothing about felting but I love everyone's creations!  I have had my house plagued by soft fuzzy Siberian Husky fur and was curious if anyone has tried to make felt out of such a substance? I brush bags of fur off of my dog every day for like 2 months out of the year so I was wondering if anyone recommends any books for beginners about felting and or dyeing fur. I have read the wet felting tutorials, but would take any extra info/advice! Thanks.
