1  Needs to be Quilted and I'm stuck in Quilting: Discussion and Questions by TeaCouture on: January 28, 2012 01:31:02 PM
I'm stuck on what type of quilting pattern to use. I had thought about doing something free form, just not sure i want to tackle that on something this large. I think the wall I used to hang that from is 6' or so... taller than me anyways.

So any ideas on how to quilt this bad boy?

So here is one of the quilts I listed for this year. The wall I hung it from is about 6' tall. At this point I need to quilt it and then bind it. But I'm stuck on what type of quilting pattern to use. Any ideas?

3  Re: We Wish You A Spooky Christmas! Gallery in The Swap Gallery by TeaCouture on: December 29, 2011 02:39:05 PM
Sent and done. Smiley Happy Holidays!

Indeed... sent and SQUEEE! Okay so be warned... lots-o-pics... This is the best swap package I have gotten so far! I loved every single bit! And I have to admit I was waiting at the mail box when the mail man arrived... he even asked if I was waiting for something... /blush... yes I am... was my reply!

Thank you franknhurter... My Christmas is complete!

So without further adieu lets see how a lonely empty pink foil tree became friends with zombies =D

My tree's haute couture has arrived... just in time for the zombie ball!

Luckily my zombie goodies were kept safe... or was it the postal service that was protected in the end... hrm...

Who would have thunk a zombie finger would be such a great chap stick holder... and it has the faint hint of Burt's Bees Pomegranite to it... /ponders... Burt's... Bee's you say... I say Burt's Zombies!

Of course... zombie critters should inhabit the zombie tree I cut from the zombie forest- head desk!

Ink, stamp... Repeat! Kinda like a semi automatic weapon... I've heard they are good at taking down zombies! This is just a titch more crafty!

For those zombie loving folks closest to your heart... /warm fuzzies...

What zombie xmas wouldn't be complete with out a survival kit... I mean who knows who may want to eat your braaaaiiiiiins on the this most important of birthday nights...?

So yeah... you have everything you need to fend off zombies on xmas... chocolate... mints... brains... can't get better than this... I bet Alice is jealous right about now!

So yeah... on this sleepless Yule Tide Eve. I can brush up on how to survive those pesky zombies out to eat Santa's coo... er BRAAAAIIINS!

My pink tree is set to be properly dressed now!

All my goodies!

Yup my creepy woodland creatures do not disappoint... dangly eyes, bones and rabid coons... woot! or is that... Oh My!

Oh Santa Baby... you do not disappoint!

Yeah that's right... I'm lit and nekkid take that and avert your eyes... but wait... what do my...

All my zombie goodness by the light of the pale pink moon. Yeah my eyes see Zombies!

Look what Santa left me! I must have been extra good... um /cough... right...

Yeah I don't think I'd want to meet these little critters in the dark of night... even back lit by pink... /shudder... where's my ear!

My tree is more fashionable than I am... ! But I'm okay with that... hrm...

While it took a bit to get my swap goodies... I am sooo totally okay with this. I loved every little bit. The zombie wrappers did an excellent job and I couldn't be more pleased... Watch out Xmas 2012... you will be invaded by zombies!

6  Thrifted Table to Turkish Delight in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by TeaCouture on: January 01, 2010 12:09:12 PM
So I happened to be at the thrift store- donating items- I was a little miffed someone was in front of me but I pulled in and started to get ready to unload... the people in front of me started to take this beauty out of the car... I asked if I could have it and the Thrift Store Gods said unto me... 'This is the table you will be working with' obviously I was ecstatic- I think I went in and bought something- because I just yanked a sale from them and all...

Clip art book- it was my grandmothers and it just so happened to fit in to my 'evil plan' mwhahahaha! Let the planning begin!

So after flipping and scanning and melding 2 different pages... this is what I came up with.

My roomie and I went to JoAnne's in search of the perfect color palette... and this is what we came up with. I wanted it to be somewhat muted... 'burnt' type colors with punches of color.

And yeah... I did actually do a colored version using the afore mentioned color palette in Photoshop to come up with the overall color scheme.

So after melding my ideas for the top a quick trip to Kinko's got me my full size output for photo transfer- which involves flipping your output toner side down and then rub acetone onto a rag so the toner is released to the surface it's in contact with... well in theory that's how it's supposed to work.

And after a quick test I had 'determined' that a photo transfer would work just fine on the finished surface- well as I you can tell I was owned by the table... sigh...

The colors on top of the newly sanded table top and mostly successful photo transfer of my copied design.

A shot showing the table in the final stages. After filling in the outlined areas I had to go back and outline the square edges and then I need to go back and line the inner circle edges.

And a detail shot of said outlining. My straight edge isn't that great so I'm just going to add it has character and you can tell it wasn't made by a machine ;-D

And here you can see the progression of me adding the colors to the transferred design center. Some areas I had to guess as the transfer wasn't 100% (probably needed to sand a tad more?)

And I pretreated and stained the table last night... so that makes it mostly done I think I'll add another few coats of polyurethane or use a 2 part epoxy to get a better protective coat on the top. Hopefully I can have it all done by this weekend or Monday.

7  Need to paint a table- no idea where to start in Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions by TeaCouture on: December 03, 2009 11:39:58 AM

So I have this table:

and a picture from Flickr which is my inspiration:

And this book with 'Authentic' Turkish Designs

I scanned a few of the drawings and came up with a top

and side stencil

I'm not sure how to get the stencil to the table top so I can add paint... I was thinking I would add graphite to the back of the paper once I print it out full size: 26"x26" so I could trace the lines to the table and then start stippling. Any paint type suggestions ie.. acrylic, oil...  would be greatly appreciated too. I was also thinking I might need to lightly sand the top so the paint will stick better- but I'm not sure? After it's painted I was going to add a few coats of clear Minwax Polycrylic to seal it all.

Let me know if I should do anything different or if you have any other suggestions.

8  Sock Monkey Zombie in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by TeaCouture on: November 19, 2009 01:21:58 PM
So a friend of mine wanted a sock monkey for her hubby as a present. She and her whole family love zombies so it seemed only natural that her monkey had to be a zombie!

First you take some mutant bits from your stash of left over bits from previous stuffie projects... like so...

You take said bits and start assembling them into a sceery zombie...

Then you take a frosty beverage break...

And after much sewing and slashing and darning you end up with a zombie fit to eat anyone's face off =D

And then the zombie decides to explore the grounds so he can get a lay of the land to report back to his other zombie buddies.

And a few close ups of the slashes and gashes...

And what zombie wouldn't want to have a furry vest... =D

and in the process of looking around mr zombie seems to have lost part of a leg- ewww...

Hope I'm safe while I wait to deliver this zombie goodness to my friends family
