1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Is this done? Suggestions needed! on: August 17, 2010 10:13:32 AM
I bought this book called the New Carolingian Modelbook many moons ago.  I was sitting around lamenting that I had the book forever and have only stitched one thing from it.  I was fawning over the book and said to myself, Why don't you just make yourself a sampler?  So that is what I did.  (With the exception of 2 designs I found for free on the internet.)  Here are my results:

My question is, I have several inches on the bottom should I put another band or write something(the book has a few alphabets in it, but they are for a fill in stitch, not a Spanish stitch like the rest of the piece), or just leave it as is? My husband thought I should put a border around the whole thing, but since the whole thing is basically borders I didn't like that idea.

I have no idea what I'm going to do with it when I'm finished, I just stitched it up for the sake of stitching.

Any advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated.  I've been staring at this thing for 2 weeks and am stumped.
2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / build a bear clothes??? on: June 03, 2010 03:06:14 PM
I have a friend who would like me to make some clothes for her daughter's build a bear(s).  I am can sew but I'm awful at drafting a pattern.  I tried to do a search on google but only came up with knit and crochet patterns.  I can barely crochet and fail at knitting.  Does anyone know of any existing patterns that work for the build a bears?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
3  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Baby Jaguar Poppet on: January 04, 2010 08:52:23 AM
I made a baby poppet for my daughter for Christmas.  This will probably be the last baby poppet I ever make.  Ugh it was tiny and the fabric was uncooperative.   Aside from that, the wee bugger turned out ok.

If you want to see pictures of the baby poppet with the momma poppet, I have a few pics up on my blog here: http://tomatoesforapples.blogspot.com/2010/01/baby-jaguar.html

I think the baby is much cuter than the momma.  My sewing and poppet making skills have really improved since I made the Momma Jaguar poppet.  I'm sure glad I didn't attempt to make a baby poppet sooner!
4  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / postage stamp doll quit on: December 12, 2009 09:12:31 AM
I was searching for fabrics to make a baby quilt for my nephew and I came across my first attempt at a postage stamp quilt.  I had gotten confused somewhere in the assembly process and decided I should do something a bit more basic for a postage stamp quilt.  When the quilt pieces resurfaced, thought it would make a great quilt for a baby poppet doll I'd made for my daughter for Christmas.

I think the binding turned out a bit ripply because I didn't hand stich it.  (Does anyone else have that problem if they machine stitch their binding?)  I think the whole thing would have turned out better if I quilted it by hand, but I don't have a lot of time to do secret crafting.  My daughter is so sneeky/nosey!!!

(The finished quilt is roughly 13x15 inches. each little square is 1 inch.)

5  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Tink poppet on: November 30, 2009 06:38:37 AM

This is the fourth poppet I've made.  She is a birthday present for my daughter's friend.  I was going for Tinkerbell and I think you can tell who she is supposed to be.

There are a few more pics on my blog here:

Please let me know what you think!
6  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / new look 6613 on: May 06, 2009 02:59:37 PM
I made this dress for my daughter today.  I thought the cow fabric would be too busy for the whole dress so i just made it into an overskirt.  I'm not a skilled seamstress, but this pattern was so easy.  I'll be making lots more in the future.

7  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Olephaunt on: May 05, 2009 10:38:12 AM

ok, so it's really an elephant.  Let me have my geekery.  I got the pattern for this on the Lion Brand yarn website. This is the 2nd Amigurumi I've made.  I think I'm addicted!!!
8  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / no knead bread on: March 16, 2009 06:35:13 AM
I know everyone and their brother are making the no knead bread these days so it's really not that big of a deal anymore. I, on the other hand have terrible luck with yeasted bread, so a loaf of bread that looks and tastes like bread, good bread has me dancing in the streets!  I'm so happy I had to share.

Here is the outside. I forgot to take a pic before i cut it.  It's very free form and rustic looking, but beautiful to me because the dough actually turned into bread!!

inside, nice big bubbles

There are a few things i'd change next time around, like cooking it a big longer so the crust stays crisper longer.  It was even a big hit with the 3yr old who in the past has refused to eat crusty bread.  She even requested the bread for lunch yesterday!
9  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / mushroom dish towels on: February 28, 2009 07:40:20 AM
My Sister in law has a mushroom themed kitchenin oranges and browns. She asked me to stitch some dishtowels for her to match.  This is what I came up with. I found some organic cotton towels on clearance at Target that have the color of something lightly tea stained.  (doesnt show up very well in the pic) The first 3 patterns are from flickr Hoop Love and the last one was an image i just found on Flickr. Please let me know what you think!

10  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / dutch oven recipes on: December 04, 2008 01:58:24 PM
I just got a dutch oven as an early xmas present.  It seemed like for a while every recipe i came across needed a dutch oven.  Now that i have one I can't find any of those recipes.  What are some of your favorite things to make in a dutch oven, camping or at home?  I've heard bread made in a dutch oven is really delicious.  Any favorite bread recipes for the dutch oven?

thanks everyone!
