21  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Another little cake on: May 01, 2011 09:40:10 PM
Made this for me friend's upcoming birthday. Probably one of my fave creations. I got my inspirtion from a wedding cake from Cake Boss. It was white though and my friend's fave color is purple so I altered it. I used glass microbeads in gold at the intersection of each quilt. Love how it turned out and really made the purple pop.

Thanks so much. I didn't like how my first projects turned out either. But, you will only get better.

It's gonna be a gift to my cousin. I didn't attend the wedding but my mom did and I made the cake as per her request. She's gonna send it to them.

My cousin got married in October and I've re-created it. I made a timeline of the process as well.

I always thought hers was really unique looking and I finally made it. The roses should be chunkier but they looked odd when I tested it out, so I had to make them smaller. I'm not totally happy with the butterfly either but I had to make it really tiny. Other than that I'm really pleased with the outcome.

Decided not to cut it but here's the finished product

Haven't been posting here in a while. I moved to California in November to attend school and I haven't had time to make clay. I brought all my stuff out here though cause I knew I'd get the itch. I wanted some inspiration so I searched pretty cakes on Flickr and found this one:

It's not finished. After I bake it I'm gonna paint the details more.
There's an off-white color in the bottom tier and I'm debating whether I wanna cut into it or not. I love the dimension of cutting into a piece to show it's complexity. The roses took about 3 days to complete. Smiley
28  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / Re: What's the best oven to get? on: March 16, 2011 04:56:34 PM
I ended up ordering the Amaco one. It should be here soon. I made this beautiful flower cake and I'm terrified to bake it. My scorched projects have left me traumatized. Tongue
29  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Bunny with evil strawberry on: February 20, 2011 11:17:42 AM
A friend and I collaborated on this. She sculpted the bunny which looks incredible(she's a cartoonist) and I made the strawberry and painted the him.
30  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / What's the best oven to get? on: February 20, 2011 09:47:17 AM
At home I used to just use my kitchen oven and it worked great. I recently moved in with my cousin and his oven is awful. It burned 2 of my clay projects. Then I tried the toaster oven and it worked for the most part but burned the edges slightly of another project. So I definitely need to get a polymer oven meant for clay.

What do you all use?
Thanks. Smiley
