1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / cable question on: August 31, 2008 07:13:20 PM
ok, i am having a duh moment right now.  i am starting a basic cabled hat.  there are cables all around the hat.  do i need a cable needle/hook for every cable? i have only done singe cable projects up to this point.  it just seems like the wip is getting awkward to maneuver.  any help would be appreciated.
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: Sewing Machine / Serger Q&A on: May 17, 2008 04:58:13 PM
i had a problem like what you described a few times recently...there was a tiny bit of thread caught in the lower part of the machine, between the part that holds the bobbin, and the C-shaped part that rotates around to pull the upper thread across. That probably doesn't make any sense...hold on.

See the tip of the seam ripper? That's where the thread has gotten stuck, and it completely stops the machine from moving any further. It will move back half a stitch, but not forward.

Now, to fix it, i used a combination of rotating the handwheel back and forth, pulling at the tiny thread bit with tweezers, and getting frustrated to the point of taking apart the lower half of the machine, which was what finally did it. I hope, if this is the problem, that you have better luck getting it out than i did.

i already tried that.  not a bit of thread to be found.  im stuck.  just like my stupid sewing machine is.  stuck.  thanks though!

please help!! i have a singer sewing machine, just a basic model, about 4 years old.  the handwheel will not turn.  there is no thread jam in the bobbin area, i removed all the parts around the feed dogs, no thread.  i cant get the back off to see if it is the belt or what.  the wheel will move down, then up to a certain point. then nothing.  i dont want to force it too hard and really break it.  do i need to take it somewhere to be looked at? any advice would help...

i have tweaked the recipe a bit.  i remelted some of it and added a bit more sweet almond oil to make it a bit softer.  i will say a container of it lasts a long time.

ok so this is about the 3rd scarf i have made that curls terribly.  the first two were stockinnette when i didnt know better. the newest one is a beautiful cable scarf.  its chunky yarn, so i just did a main cable surrounded by purl stitches w a stockinette border.  i thought it would be fine because the main part is the purl stitch.  apparently its not.  i blocked it and it started off fine.  then after a day or so of being dry it started curling around the cable.  is there anything i can do to fix it? it was intended for an xmas gift, but it probably will just be another scarf for me if this cant be fixed...

well, she was having a tarot reading, so it was closed.  does anyone have any ideas of a churchor community center or somewhere to meet? i like the idea of a coffee shop, but maybe somewhere else would be better for a variety of crafts.
