1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / A bag for me! on: July 15, 2007 08:02:38 PM
This is the first bag I have made for myself in probably 4 years.  I was so inspired by all of you with your pleats and belts for straps and all your creativity, that I just had to give it a try again.  I found this cool material and decided it was the stuff to make my awesome bag.  So, here it is! (click on the pics for big versions)

The outside of the bag is made out of a canvas-y type material I found at Goodwill. I think it was a window valance. The lining is linen I already had. The silvery part at the base of the straps is from a belt I found on clearance at Target. It's a soft cloth but has a silvery look to it. I already had the d-rings on the straps. In all, it cost me about $3 to make. Yay! Here are some more pics:

2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / reversible bag for my sis on: June 28, 2007 12:22:53 PM
Hey, all!  I've been hanging around here for like 4 years but haven't really made anything since my daughter was born 2 years ago.  My sis asked me to make her a big, reversible bag for her birthday.  Here's what I made:

I made a pocket that flips so the outside could be without a pocket and the inside could have one:

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Chenille by the inch on: October 16, 2004 09:37:39 AM
I just had to share this stuff with you guys.  It's the coolest!  It's called chenille by the inch and I used it on one bag and loved it.  It's inexpensive and easy to use and fun!  Go to Fabric Cafe's website for more info on it.  Here's a few pics of the bag I used it on:

4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / best way to embroider? on: June 21, 2004 09:26:00 PM
I just got an order for a bag and they want 2 initials embroidered on it.  My sewing machine isn't one of those fancy ones that embroiders pictures and letters and stuff.  What would you experienced people out there recommend as the best way to embroider the initials?  Any advice is very much appreciated.
5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / my 1st reversible bag / added 1st applique bag on: June 18, 2004 08:15:26 PM
I'm so excited!  I actually made a reversible bag!  Tongue  The bottom measures 6" x 9" and it is 10" tall and 14" wide at the top. It closes with a magnetic snap and has 2 shoulder straps.   My pattern was the Jordy tutorial just modified to be bigger.

6  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / How do you do a "whipstitch"? on: June 13, 2004 02:38:39 PM
Will someone please explain how you "whipstitch" something?  Thanks!
7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / My Bag on: June 07, 2004 05:03:09 PM
I made this bag and just had to share it here because this forum has been extremely helpful to me.  It's kinda small, about 10" across by 8" tall by 3" deep.  Green linen with cream linen lining.

8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Reinforcing tops of handmade bags on: May 23, 2004 02:18:38 PM
Hello all!  I started my own business making handmade bags last year.  I just stumbled across this forum and I must say it rocks!  I need some advice.  When I make a bag that has a shoulder strap, I run into a problem.  When you fill the bag up and close it and then pick it up by the strap, the top bows in.  Any idea how to reinforce the top of the bag so it doesn't bow in as much?  Thanks in advance!
