I got an awesome envelope from craftylittlemonkey today.  Weve been having a challenge with mail getting to me but this made it through!  First, the extra goodies:

And the April ATC: Your Fortune on a tea tag.

And just to save yall from popping around, here are the March ATC, and the 2 from February.

February

The its not your door is a message from the universe delivered my craftylittlemonkey.  Especially today, I was having a rough time with still job searching for almost a year.  This ATC will be hanging where I will always see it.

BigBangMomma's beautiful Printmaking card arrived!

There are so many beautiful layers in this!  And this might be the motivation I need to try my hand at making my own washi tape out of masking tape.

Thank you!

Im catching up with all things computer, so Thanate, sorry for taking so long to post this.

Thanate went with cats/non-paper and I love how the swirls just perfectly captures how cats can move!

She named it Stealth Cats which is absolutely perfect!  Thank you so much!

Well, my book had a mind of it's own.  I rather prefer that happening... they usually end up better than the original plan.  Also, I did connect the signatures after I had stitched each one up individually.

So, I was going for a pretty basic small coptic stitch book.  Instead, this happened:

The book pulls out by the little tab:

and the book spread open:

I did sew the signatures together, but I think that the wide spine was preventing the pages to sit nicely in the cover.  I ended up attaching the signatures to the cover before I wrapped the cover:

Aside from my hacked needle, I did make my own thing-a-ma-jig to trim the pages after the signatures were stitched.  Mix together a clamp hanger, smooth tile, and a sharp bade and you have this:

The covering is duct tape. The friend I'm making it for likes tye-dye better than the fabric I have.  The only thing I have left to do is secure some tags and envelopes inside the book.

Well, that wasnt as bad as I thought it would be once I used the cutting guide!  I actually chopped up the magazine pages the night I made the cutter.  Yesterday was for sorting them into signatures.

There are 12 signatures.  Im not liking how the page edges are really out of line so Im going to stitch each signature up, trim the edges, then connect them all.

I know traditional bookbinding stitches each signature and connects the signatures with each other with one stitch.  Is there any reason doing that in 2 steps wouldnt work?  Though Ill let you know how it goes for me.

Well, a few hours ago, I just posted that I was questioning my own sanity with just the first step in a junk journal I am making.  And right after that, I figured out a tool to save my sanity!

In making this journal, I have about 100 magazine pages that I will be cutting out the pages of the journal. The pieces lay all over the pages, so each magazine page needs to be chopped up individually.  And to add to everything, I wanted the look of the rough, torn edges.  I was tracing out the right size shapes, folding the edges without folding into an adjacent shape, fighting with folding it against the grain, etc, etc.

UPDATE: I found having a little softness under the magazine pages help with the cutting. I had a silicone sheet on my desktop

So, along came my frame cutter.

Its just a piece of plastic in which I cut out the shape of the pages for my journal thus making a frame for the shape.

Then, I use it to frame out the section of the magazine page I want to use

I tried using a couple of different tools to make the cuts and a thin awl best cut and left the rough edge I wanted.  I just dragged the awl along the inside edge of the frame and it etched in the page.  Then I was able to move the frame and pick out another journal page I wanted.  I did this a few times.

Then it was just a matter of pulling the pages apart.  I think I got 4 journal pages out of 1 magazine page in the same amount of time it was taking me to get just 1 journal page before.
