21  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / some of my summer projects(incredibly pic heavy) on: September 19, 2007 04:09:22 PM
The title basically explains it. Goes from packaging tape to cloth to fused plastic bags.

I hope you like 'em! They're in order from when I made them, I think.
22  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Cutie Vegetable Doll(pic heavy)*new state fair pic!* on: September 19, 2007 04:03:00 PM
I made this in sewing 2, and yet I crocheted it. Each appendage is a vegetable, and the dress is sewn with a corset back. I've been working on it for about 3 weeks in class, and I spent a weekend crocheting the pieces. Hope you like!

The pictures don't do it justice.
*EDIT* Here's a new picture, with the first place award I won at the state fair. I won first place in "Hand Crocheted Items 14-17 y-o". I know it's not that great of an achievement, but I'm excited Smiley
23  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / a beautiful disaster on: August 11, 2007 02:52:57 PM
I originally intended this to be from all one fabric. Of course, this is my first shirt from scratch, my second outside sewing class. I should've expected this to happen. Then it was too small, so I added the side strips in a contrasting cloth, and decided to make part of the front match. Oh yeah, and I added small slits on the sides to make it fit around my hips. Despite the huge change from my plan, I absolutely adore it. I hope you like it! All cloth from the thrift shop!

24  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / my crazy one evening scrapbook bag(extremely pic heavy!) on: July 19, 2007 09:06:04 AM
I'm officially in love with packaging tape. After making a wallet with it, I settled down to a movie with my family, with a ton of pictures, yearbookish notes, and cute messages my friends have written to me that I've kept, in front of me. I went slightly mad, and refused to go to bed until I finished. I used up the entire roll of tape, and I still need to reinforce one of the sides. Here are the pics Cheesy
                   The entire bag

                  Closeups of the front

                   closeups of the back

                  even the straps are pictures

and a very bad picture of the inside, there are a few notes in there too Smiley

To sum it all up, I took a bunch of things that make me happy, which I look at about once a year, and made them into a bag I can look at all the time. Smiley
I hope you like it!!!! Please, comments and critisisms very much appreciated! This is my first time trying this.
25  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / purty $1 circle skirt- too short? on: July 19, 2007 08:52:32 AM
I went to the thrift shop and found a TON of this gorgeous cloth, so I decided to make a circle skirt. I've never made one before, but I have no patience for patterns, so I took a swing at it by myself Smiley I had to seriously trim the bottom edge, because it was so uneven, and trimmed it too much. So I sewed some of the cloth back on the skirt(you can't see it in the picture). This is how it turned out.
Sorry about my pale legs, I'm just getting over a dislike of them and trying to wear shorts for the first time in ages. I also have gym shorts underneath them, 'cause with circle skirts this short, you'd see my underwear constantly Cheesy
                   straight shot

action shots!!!!!!!!! :b I think I've fallen in love with the 10 second timer on my camera.

Is it too short? Do you think I can pull it off? I'll always wear shorts underneath it. Maybe I'll try and stay out in the sun longer so my arms aren't 10 times tanner than my legs......
Thanks for looking! Comments mucho appreciated!
26  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / warning: may cause headaches (VERY colorful patchwork skirt) on: July 12, 2007 06:02:18 AM
I was looking around the site yesterday, and happened to notice a pattern for a tiered skirt. I was caught by it, because I realized I could make the skirt without actually looking at the pattern Smiley When I started on it I was feeling really weird and it was the only thing I could focus on. By the end I was miserable and it was soothing me. I haven't hemmed the bottom yet, but I still love it.
Please tell me what you think. I've never made a skirt like this before. Are the colors too much? Also, how can I make it so the sides don't puff out and make it look insane?
                    Front View
Sitting View(with dog attached Cheesy )

Thanks for looking! Oh, and I'm 17. I look much younger than I am in pictures, so I thought I would clarify that.
27  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Discussion and Questions / waterproof ink on: May 30, 2007 04:27:39 PM
I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I need help! Three of my friends are/have graduated this year. I'm planning on sewing pillows with my favorite pictures of us on my computer. I've been ironing freezer paper onto the back of the cloth and putting it through the printer. It's working, but it's not waterproof, and I'd rather not have the picture all drip off if the pillows somehow get wet.
Any thoughts? If there is another cheap easy way to do it(I'm a highschooler with a free weekend, no drivers license, and little money), I would love to know it. I've never really done this before.
            thank you! -Rachel
28  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / birthday pencil cases :D on: April 05, 2007 06:02:18 AM
Three of my friends have birthdays in april, so I decided to make their presents over spring break. It took FOREVER, but I love them. While normal people socialize and do weird things on the computer, I sew and crochet. They start out lovely and get progressively worse as I began getting tired of making them.

I'm really proud of them, because this is the first time I've really made an effort to do everything correctly so there are absolutely no raw edges, and the zippers are as perfect as I could get them. I'm only 16, so this is quite an achievement of focus for me.
                   Thanks for looking!

29  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Quilted bag designs on: April 03, 2007 12:01:55 PM
I'm making 3 pencil cases/whatever you want in 'em cases for 3 birthdays. The trick is, I'm trying to make each with a different design. I finished the first one with a bunch of tiny squares, and I started the second one with triangles, but I'm having trouble with the triangles. I can't think of a single design for the third. Does anyone have any ideas for interesting simple designs with a lot of colors? I'm trying to finish these by thursday(which I probably will not manage) so please if you have ANY ideas, tell me.
                        thanks, Rachel
30  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / dove milk chocolate bag(pic heavy) on: March 26, 2007 06:30:36 PM
You know those dove milk chocolates with the "promise messages" on the inside? Well, I love them, and some of the messages make me really happy. I collected them, and decided to make a bag! I'm not sure how much I like it, but I though I'd get some other points of view.

front with flap down.

My two favorite wrappers.

Thanks for looking! Any comments or advise would be greatly appreciated.
