Sometimes you just HAVE to go with the cheaper yarn, you have no choice!  The other day I was at Joann's and they had that vanna yarn for $1.50.  I grabbed a bunch to try it out and at the register it was only $.80 a skein!!!!

It's not bad yarn either.  There are some really nice colors at least!

If I'm working on sewing or anything with needles I have to work at the table so the kiddies (not kitties, but my offspring) can't get at me.  But I mainly crochet on the couch so they can sit with me while I'm working.  The baby still grabs at my work from time to time but they're pretty good at leaving the yarn and hooks alone.
My five year old loves to hold the yarn balls and unravel them while I'm working.  She's a little OCD.

Ho-Ho-Wo was my now three year old daughter's third word, right after ma-ma and da-da!  I had always planned on making her one, but just never got around to it.  Oh I'm a horrid mother!

You banner looked nice, it just wasn't really attention grabbing. Maybe you can get someone on Etsy to design you a banner in trade for something you make via Alchemy.

That's a great idea!  You Miss, are a genius!

I don't have an Etsy shop, but as an occasional browser, I'd say as long as you have a nice product that is priced well, and the correct wording, people looking for that product will find it. When I want something I do a search and usually look at as many search results as I can. To make your shop memorable you might put something bright or eye-catching in the banner, perhaps work on a logo and start developing a brand. Hope this helps. You might try posting your questions on the Etsy board as well.

I'm totally backwards when it comes to computer design!  I attempted to make a banner and it came out really amateurish.  Alas!

I like the hats you made with the thinner yarn myself.... although your little girl is cute as a button in her big blue battle helmet.  :-)

Thanks!  I can't help but agree with that!

Are you using wool or wool mix yarn?  Allergies to wool, especially mild ones, are very common.

When I'm working with Homespun (though I usually choose not to, my kids love it though) I just use a bigger hook.  My big gold hook is a lifesaver with 'fancy' yarn.  You just have to change the gauge for whatever pattern you're using.

I think I've been using a 'K' hook, which is what the packaging recommends... I think my problem with the homespun is that I sometimes have problems discerning where the correct holes are, because of the waviness of the yarn.  So I just kind of plow through, and then I think I end up skipping stitches.

Ah well, try try again!

But I will certainly try with a bigger hook.  I've got an 'N' hanging around waiting to be used.   Heeheehee...

Funny thing is my big gold  hook is an 'N'.  I rarely work with it, but when I do projects get done alot faster!  Giant hooks come through in a pinch.

The work's in progress thing is a great idea.  I think I'll be working on sorting all mine out at the kids' naptime!  Thanks!

I had a couple questions to other posters,
One, how can you make an etsy shop stand out amongst the thousand other homemade crocheted stuff out there?
Two, is etsy a good idea?
Three, how can you possibly 'price to sell'...I've heard that my small shops prices are either way too low or too high.
Four, you get a million custom orders, is it easier to do them without etsy or with?

Here's a link to my store oliverosemximum.etsy.com

Feedback is totally greatly appreciated!
