1  UNITED STATES / Virginia / Anyone familiar with Dublin, Va? on: October 02, 2007 09:24:29 PM
I'm looking into New River Community College up in Dublin, Virginia, and was wondering if anyone was familiar with the area and knew of any craft stores, fabric shops, little coffee houses, or other nice places around the area.

And also, if you attend NRCC, how do you like it?
2  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Coconut Milk Soap... Preservatives? on: July 31, 2007 07:59:08 AM
I've recently got into vegan soap making, and want to use coconut milk in my soaps. I've read that vitamin E oil will extend the shelf life, but what kind of preservatives do I really need to use if using coconut milk?
3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / My Versions of Hokusai`s "The Great Wave" & "Dream of the Fishermans Wife" on: December 29, 2006 09:06:19 AM
In my graphic arts class at school, each year we redo paintings by the Masters. Some people chose to do Mona Lisa, some chose to do random works by Picasso.

I chose Katsushika Hokusai.

The first one I did was a 3D version of "The Great Wave". I drew each wave and boat onto different pieces of cardboard to make a 3D layer effect. Then I created a stencil & spray painted each layer, then went back and added details on the ships & waves.

The second was a painting of his woodcut "The Dream of the Fisherman`s Wife". I drew the picture onto the canvas then painted it. It was pretty hard getting the right colors, but I think it turned out pretty good. [this picture was taken before it was completed]

tell me what you think!

4  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Light the Night - Needs Craft Items on: September 14, 2006 06:58:12 PM

I signed up for Light The Night, a walk hosted by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society that raises money for research & awareness of blood related diseases. I was thinking of putting together different sized goodie bags & raffling them off, to raise some money for the walk [my goal is anywhere between $500 & $5,000]. If anyone is interested in donating some items, such as small craft items, or samples from your small business, I would greatly appreciate it. I will make sure that you are recognized for your donation some way, either by making a website for this & putting up banners, or splitting the funds raised evenly between each contributor & donating it under their name.

If anyone else would like to donate money alone, here is the link:

Thanks so much for all your help!
5  Florida / Florida: South / Palm Beach Craft Group on: August 15, 2006 07:05:33 PM
Anyone in the palm beaches, or the surrounding area, interested in starting up a craft group? I found a nice little place called Teapots & Treasures on A1A off of Northlake. I talked to the lady, & she said that they can close the place to host an event, or we can use it at night, after 5pm till whenever. It`s $10 per person, with $150 being the minimum [so if only 10 people show up, we are still expected to pay $150]. But that includes unlimited drinks, a homemade cake, & some really yummy deserts. We can always bring our own food as well.

please let me know if anyone is interested so we can get this all together!
