2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Re: Valentine's 2007 on: February 14, 2007 07:24:01 AM
I bought my man a very expensive sketchbook for VD and a (gulp) store-bought card. BUT seeing as there has been a snow storm blowing thru and I am snowed in and won't see him till tonight (if the roads are cleared out in these parts) I am making him a small handmade accordion book. There is a hard front cover and back cover and then all the pages, six of them, are really one long piece of paper. Each page will have a few words of a very short poem that ends in "i love you". But the words "i love you" will be written on a little card I will tuck into a handmade envelope that is glued to the inside of the back cover. The whole thing closes with a ribbon. I have nothing but time today.

This has nothing to do with knitting, but why not enjoy a First Friday (http://www.comeseeart.com/AlbanyArtsGuide.pdf) and then end at the wine bar for a refreshment afterwards? Hey, you might see some of my work in one of the galleries, too. First Friday is on the first Friday of every month. A string of galleries hosting opening receptions. It's been getting bigger and bigger each month.

My daughter has one. I bought her the three ring set. I'm thinking of making a skirt for myself, it's a fun toy.

whats up with people making female organs all of a sudden?

It's not an all-of-a-sudden kind of thing. Look to Judy Chicago and before her, Georgia Okeeffe. Keep going back in time through the histories of art making many women celebrated their bodies through iconography and symbolism. Infact, you know the fish symbol people put on cars? That began thousands of years ago as a symbol for a vagina. Lots of info there, this isn't the place to tell the story. Sorry, I am an artist and have studied women in art for sometime. I am pro-woman... a new feminist. I love my vagina. I love other parts, too, but it's the vagina from which life is born.

If you haven't already posted a tute, I would love some instructions. I am organizing a show of The Vagina Monolouges this spring and maybe I could make a quilt and raffle it off so the proceeds go to a d.v charity. I'm a domestic violence survivor, too, so it would mean a lot to give back to help someone else. Perhaps other craftsters here could make a square of your design and I could assemble it for the show. Hmmmm.... an idea.

I can't beleive this is still going.

It's really too bad. Of all the small mom-and-pop farms with a few happy well cared for sheep there's always some bigger farm or "mill" giving the industry as a whole a bad rep. my son is in 4H (goat club) and we do many activities with the sheep club. It's so nice to see kids rasied to respect their animals and care for them. The sheep are never hurt in any way. And during fair week the older kids with sheep actually sleep right along side them, keeping them from harm. I don't oppose using or wearing wool, but it's a crime when an animal is manhandled and hurt. So I buy locally or at the fairs.

Oh yeah, I forgot.....

This is the first Christmas as a single mom (I really hate using that stereotype, I want a new one) so there isn't a santa to fill my stocking or to put presents under the tree for Christmas morning so I'm doing it myself. I already took some photos of me and the kids and made them balck and white and did things to them and had them printed and I framed them. I'll give those to myself for christmas. This is fun. I actually get what I want.
