1  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Non-Circular Handle for Fat Bottom Bag (aka FBB)? on: September 18, 2007 04:32:15 PM
I've been away from Craftster and away from crocheting for a couple of months because life just got too busy.  Well I was in the bookstore the other day, and realized that I just had to buy SnBHH.  So, I'm a third of the way through my first Fat Bottom Bag, and I have a question.

I went to the store to get handles.  I decided that I do not like the round handles, but I didn't want a shoulder strap, either.  So, I bought a pair of U-shaped handles, kind of like this:  http://www.createforless.com/products/productDetail.asp?ProductID=79011&SI=61501ee7-1bc8-4d03-b3b9-f0a0328ce286

Has anyone tried these with a FBB?  How do you attach them?  I did a search, but couldn't find anything.  Any advice would be wonderful!   Smiley
2  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / What can I do with 3-foot lenghts of yarn? on: June 21, 2007 10:23:05 AM
In a box of craft supplies that I purchased for $2 at an estate sale, I found a lot of 3-foot lengths of yarn. in various colors (think 1960s-70s decor...definatley vintage).  Any ideas as to what I could do with them?  I keep meaning to take a picture to post, but I haven't gotten around to it.  Thanks for the help!  =)
3  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Something like the Fat Bottom Bag? on: June 19, 2007 12:28:49 PM
I love the Fat Bottom Bag from The Happy Hooker, but I can't afford to buy the book for one pattern.  Are there any similar patterns out there?  I've seen the "Chic on the Half Shell", which is cute, but not what I want.  I want something "poofy" like the FBB.  Any suggestions?
4  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Have you made the Motif Sampler Scarf??? on: May 25, 2007 09:39:24 PM
So, I've been looking for a pattern to take me through my upcoming trip to Alaska and back (4 hours in the car and around 11 in a plane to get there, and then around 11 in a plane and 4 hours in the car to get back home...whew!).  I want something that will keep me busy for awhile (see parenthetical, above), but not take up a bunch of room or be too bulky (or hot) to pack around.  So, I found this:

Has anyone made it?  6 skiens of Microspun shouldn't take up too much room in my bags, and it should keep me plenty busy!  It's like a smaller version of the Babbette blanket.  I'd love to see your interpretations of it if anyone else has done it already.  I'm thinking of substituting either the mocha or the french vanilla with another color to give it some oomph, but not sure what color I'd use.  Then again, it's pretty and elegant as is.  Any suggestions?

We aren't leaving for a month (June 25), but Microspun is on sale at JoAnn's for 2 for $3, so I'm thinking of buying the yarn now.   Grin
5  UNITED STATES / Alaska / Any craft/yarn stores I shouldn't miss in Fairbanks? on: May 23, 2007 09:34:15 AM
My boyfriend and I are going to be in Fairbanks June 25-July 4, and I was wondering if there was any craft and/or yarn stores I should check out while I'm there?  Thanks!!!  =)
6  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / My First FO Posted - Baby Blanket on: April 16, 2007 03:49:19 PM
I've been crocheting for a couple of years now, and have been lurking on this site for a year or so from time to time.  This is my first post with a completed piece.  It's just a baby blanket, from Lion Brand's Pound of Love...off white or something or another.  It's about 3 feet by 3 feet.  I used the pattern stitch from http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/cpl-bafg.html?noImages=0, but made it to my own diminsions and I didn't add the hood.

Sappy story alert:
I have actually made probably 12 of these, but all have been for other people.  I like to keep one on hand for those unexpected shower invites and such.  So, I was making this one last week, and my boyfriend snuggled up to me and said, "That would be perfect to wrap a baby of ours in."  I melted.   Smiley  I'll be keeping this one.   Grin

A view from an angle to show off the texture.

And a close up of the stitches.  Ignore the shadow.   Tongue

7  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Does anyone have a "manly" hat pattern??? on: April 15, 2007 05:08:40 PM
My boyfriend wants me to make him a hat...but so many of the ones I've seen are more girly.  Is there a more manly pattern out there?  Don't ask me what I mean by manly...lol.  Just something that he'd not laugh at.   Grin  I bought some woodland-colored variegated yarn that I think he'll like.  Any suggestions?
