It will serve you personally well now and in any potential future / expansion to stretch beyond the meet-halfway position - and determine to not worry whether or not you receive any acceptance back. You cannot change her, but you don't want to play that game.

Absolutely make her something very nice "as if" you're trying to please her. It doesn't matter whether or not it passes any of her judmentalism any more than whether she believes the sky to be blue. When you make something very nice, it is what it is and stands for itself (as in the color blue for the sky) ... and any lack of appreciation (belief) is on her, not on you.

As for getting her style of acceptance, that you're lucky enough to have crafted something "just for her," rephrase it to say you're perceptive and talented enough Wink

7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Call to all witty crafters!!! HELP! on: July 22, 2009 05:07:04 AM
At 50, I really doubt a kaleidoscope would thrill - you may be beating yourself up with a mission impossible ... or at very least, very difficult. We crafters tend to try and top what we've done in the past, but that makes the gifting more about us than about the recipient. The best gifts are about the recipients. Turning 50 was, for me, a cool transition into a self-proclaimed right to comforts Wink ... but we don't want to sacrifice some style. We want a little more of what we love.
You could cover an all-white golfing hat in a conservative lace and matching 1/4" satin ribbon ... or go for a great bottle of wine, something along the lines of what she enjoys while spending time at home, going out, pursuing hobbies, etc. Take time to make it about her and you'll top it all.

I'm 50 and live in Huntertown (North of Fort Wayne). I concentrate mainly on a long list of what's needed to sell our home in a few years as well as take into a new home. This includes new window treatments (mostly complete) from what's around or low-cost add-ins, total re-upholstery on LR sofa and chairs fabric covering new lampshade frames and throw pillow forms (currently underway to bring ecclectic "together") ... and may include a total re-do of a large piece that's over my fireplace. I have designed the layout of paver brick patios and of multi-color/size slate for a foyer entry, counter and backsplash. I was once into ceramics and loved it (sadly, my favorite shop is no longer there) and will definitely be interested in pursuing this again in the not-so-far future ... when I also may be tackling scrapbooking and other things. I tend to look at everything from a "recon possibilities" perspective LOL.
