1  Just a quick question... pricing opinion: in Get Product and Website Opinions by KatJones on: November 02, 2006 12:11:37 PM
Hey guys!  I have a quick question.  I forgot to interface the back fabric of this purse but I wanted to go ahead and list it on Etsy.  What do you think a good markdown price would be for this purse from $40?
Thanks!!!!  I appreciate you guys so much.

2  Birdy Bird Purse in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by KatJones on: November 02, 2006 11:33:02 AM
I finished this one quite a while ago but I finially got the photos onto photobucket.  My computer at home is super slow and it's the only one I can load any photographs into.  So I spent a while talking with my friend on the phone while I waited for the pictures to load and here we go.  :-)  Please let me know what you think.
I will admit I did something dumb though... I forgot to put interfacing in the back and only realised it once the purse (which took me quite a long time (12 hrs) to do cuase I had to figure out where to place the birdy and how to construct him - where the clouds would go... turned the living room into a sea of fabric and children's books... blablabla).  Ouch.
But here he is... Samuel.  :-)
Here is the front:

The back:

And the inside:

Please let me know what you think :-)
Thanks guys!

3  Re: Unconditional Swap October 2006 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by KatJones on: October 24, 2006 08:19:42 AM
I recieved the most amazing packages from Zombie Flesh and Bexiecat!  Thank you sooo much guys!  I have learned soooo much from this month's swap because I recieved this time instead of making something for someone else.  My first two craft swaps recieved!  Yay!  How fun.
Anyways... earlier this month I got two beautiful scarves from Zombie Flesh and a pretty scarf pin in the shape of a leaf.  They make me want to learn how to knit so that I can have one in every color (I'm going to have to talk to my roomate and ask her to teach me):

Here are two pictures of me wearing them.  I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then I got another package YESTERDAY from Bexiecat!  WOO HOO!  I love presents.  I was shocked to find out what was inside.  I knew she was making me a journal (which is beautiful) but I didn't expect a trick-or-treating monster filled with candy!  My roomates will be so happy and I think I found a new tour mascot.  He's going to go on my merch table on the next tour and give candy canes out (since it's a Christmas tour with Christmas songs and everything)... he even has patches for every season to go on the bag.

here's a picture of the different patches.

Thanks to both of you.  I can not even begin to express how much both swaps mean to me.  You really blessed me.
kat *skipping off into the sunset with my skarf and my pin wrapped warmly around my neck, my journal in my purse, and clutching my monster with a candy in my mouth... yum*

4  Why I made it and then forgot it I don't know... (PIC HEAVY) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by KatJones on: October 23, 2006 02:57:07 PM
So, I made a purse on friday to sell as merch for a show I was playing.  I am starting to get used to the form so I could bang it out pretty quickly but then I did the dumbest thing ever... I forgot my box of merch.  Cds, t-shirts, everything, sitting on my living room floor at home.  I was so busy trying to beat the Nashville traffic that I walked out without my merch.  Awesome sauce.  Oh well, there's always next time.
The funniest part was that when I was on stage rhambling about how I'd never done anything that dumb before I looked into my gear box and saw 10 cds.  I had started a song and then screamed out... hey look!  You can buy cds after all!  I have some I stashed away right here.
So... after all that tyraid... here is the purse I made and then forgot :-)  And another I made a while ago.  :-)

:-)  kat

5  I'm doing the pink pout. (fabric question) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions by KatJones on: September 13, 2006 02:48:22 PM
So... I have a customer (my best customer actually - my only super steady customer really) that has requested a custom pink "kat jones" purse from me (by "kat jones" I mean that it will have a patch on it to support the music - she mostly buys cds and t-shirts from me) anyways... I don't have any pink fabric.  I'm not much of a pink girl but I was wondering if y'all had seen any rad mostly pink or pink accents, sort of "indie" rock looking fabric out there?  Mostly what I've found is pretty SUPER girly (butterflies and stuff).

Here's a version of the last one I sent her but it was red with tiny white polkadots on it.  Some stipes sewn into it and the cutest yellow button I've ever seen.  I wish I'd taken a picture first.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  My brain has melted under the flourecent lights and stollen my inspiration from me.

6  Dia De Los Muertos Journal in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by KatJones on: September 11, 2006 09:12:00 AM
This is my second journal of this style.  I love it when I can fill a journal up and look at my pocketbook (which says I can't afford a new one) and realise that I can make my own.  What a consept!
So this is the result.  I made a couple of mistakes on this version that I didn't make on the last one I did (which I'll post later).  I think it's mainly because I tried to cram too much paper into the design.  But I do love it.  The ribbons are highly impractical but it reminds me sooo much of a pinata (imagine a tilda on the "n" in pinata) I could care less.  Here's the result.  The pictures don't quite give the full effect but I would love to know what you guys think!  :-)

7  Re: cut out handle with fish!! **TUTORIAL ADDED** in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by KatJones on: September 11, 2006 08:35:29 AM
Alright... I completed my first attempt.  I figured out what I did wrong and then I dared to try the cutout handle.  I did unfortuanatley flub this attempt as well.  I cut too close to my seams on the handle and when I pulled my extra fabric through the handles the seams fell apart and I for the most part couldn't fix it becuase it had caused my fabric to fray.  My fault.  So I zigzaged over the handle to cover up my mistake and I still like the way it turned out.  But using the zigzag stitch as a way to bind like that was something I had not done before... so it was cool to apply and learn a new step.  I think I also wish that I had used the interfaced fabric as the outside in general instead of the plain fabric.  I think it would've produced a nicer effect in the long run.  Maybe even when the purse was reversed.  I will of course be learning from my mistake but here is the reversable result.  I am stoaked to contribute to this thread btw.   :-)  this was actually a really great learning experience.

The Orrigioinal Intent:

The Reverse:

I ended up giving it to a friend to congratulate her on her first week of teaching science this year.  She's out of town until today so I also bought some flowers and arranged them in a science measuring beaker for when she arrives.  Pictured next to the purse.

8  2nd & 3rd Purses... Yay! (IMG Heavy) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by KatJones on: September 08, 2006 06:46:34 AM
I'm still pretty basic.  I'm working on some new shapes and new ideas but practicing like crazy at sewing.  "cause I'm still pretty much a newbie.  But I did descover the glorious teflon foot and sew now I can protect the images on the purses with vinyl and not scream in the process :-)  Please let me know what you think:-)  Thank you!
I'm still new at the posting images thing too... so *fingers crossed*

9  My First Monster Attempt in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by KatJones on: August 21, 2006 07:38:48 AM
This is Monroe & Melinda Monster.  They've been seperated since their creation this weekend.  Monroe was given to my boyfriend & Melinda was given to one of my roomates whom is moving to Indiana this weekend.  Snif snif.

I love that it looks like Melinda has a crush on Monroe & that Monroe is totally annoyed by her.  Happy co-incidences.  The darkness around Melinda's mouth is the water that I used to wash off the water-soluable ink I used to draw her face.  I was impatient and had to text them to my friends right away... so I didn't wait for her face to dry.  Silly me.

10  Apple Purse... Please let me know what you think in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by KatJones on: August 10, 2006 07:52:40 AM
So, this was one of my first sewing projects.  I think I'm going to send it to my best friend for her birthday.  If you have any comments, positive or negative, I would be happy to hear them.  I'm just learning yo.  I'll try to post a different purse that I made in the next couple of days.  Next project... maybe a shirt dress or a messenger bag... we'll see.  :-)
I'm even new at posting images.  We'll see how we do.
