1  Re: The Long Awaited Poppet-Along in Craftalongs by SamJ on: June 04, 2009 09:02:07 AM
........  I know that most of the poppeteers use yarn for hair, has anyone thought about using Saran/nylon traditional doll hair? .....

I used curly doll hair for a poppet for the last swap

I just used cotton the same colour and sewed it on .... if you took the hair off you'd be able to see just how bad I've sewn it on  Grin

2  new dress in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by SamJ on: June 03, 2009 11:39:10 AM
I saw the first dress on this post a few days ago https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=307473.0
and fell in love with it Smiley  so i just had to make my own..... not for me  Cheesy for my little girl.
I used three different patterned cottons and as much as I like the dress its not as whooshy as I wanted it to be.... but even so my daughter loves it Grin  and thats the best feeling in the world.

Ignore the face it had turned quite chilly by the time id managed to get hold of her and the camera so she was not impressed to be stood out in the cold.
anyway heres the front

bleary action shot

This is a self drafted pattern but as I've already said I had influence from another craftsters' brilliant dress.
It's the first time I've made an item of clothing for my daughter that has actually fitted her first time, without resizing  Grin and its also the first time I've done shirring and gathering Shocked.  Isnt it amazing how someone elses creation can push you to learn something new.
We have had quite nice weather here in the uk the last week or so and if it lasts I will definitely be making more, but with a few alterations.

Thank you StacyCK xx

3  birthday bag with name in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by SamJ on: June 03, 2009 11:15:23 AM
Background story:  My friend has a little girl who has an unusual name, well unusual enough that they cant find anything with her name on it.   We (as in my daughter and son) were invited to her birthday party,  I thought for a very long time about what I could do, I decided on a pillow with her name scripted with ribbon.  I started on my new project only to realize that I wouldnt have enough time to finish it (to many fiddly tiny heart buttons.)

So I changed my mind and decided on a small bag

here it is

 the inside

The name is threaded onto elastic and that also keeps the bag closed, the strap is black ribbon with pink stitched edges. There is a another pocket on the back but I forgot to take pictures of it Sad

I loved it..... but Im not to sure on the recipient Sad she was to busy playing to really pay much attention Cheesy  but her mum liked it Grin

I love the detail on both bags.

Thank you very much seamless gem ...... I think I'm gonna be using these for carrying all sorts not just my shopping Grin

7  my ben shermans in Shoes: Completed Projects by SamJ on: January 29, 2009 02:17:49 PM
i had a  pair of pink and red ben shermans which i adored they were so comfy. i wore them so much that after three months they were more than slightly worse for ware but i wouldnt dare part with them......

fast forwards about a year and a half (wearing them a few times) and i finally have a interview.... but........ i have no shoes, that have a heel under 3 inches, that i can wear that are formal but I am still able to move about in and feel confidant and comfortable wearing ........ so out came the ben shermans and the sharpies...... and the recon began

the before

the after  (please ignore the insides in my excitement i forgot to cover the grossness Embarrassed)

and the together

I just don't know if I have enough ink in my black sharpie to complete the other shoe!!!!!!!  Sad

edit: there was enough ink left  Grin    but if you do this im going to recommend you use a sealer before wearing them outside in the rain Cheesy  as i now have a slightly grey semi circle on the top of my foot!!!!!! Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

this is going to be a huge post Embarrassed ......so forgive me Roll Eyes

this is lucy (ive already introduced her to everyone) but now she has hair and a new ballet jumper

her new bracelet

and poppet number2 is coming along slowly, im not rushing this one thou im taking my time Grin
she has eyelids and eyelashes that took ages to get right, they still not quite right.
the classic head on a stick

she has the matching earings to lucys' bracelet

FYI  I found a book  TOYS TO KNIT i cant remember the auther sorry, its a basic knitted doll pattern with lots of different clothes to knit too. I know some of the clothes will need a bit of mod. (ie to get over the head) but it has the basic shape and so far they are the right size to fit my Lucy.

10  a simple tote in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by SamJ on: August 30, 2008 03:50:00 AM
hi this is my latest bag

its just a simple tote bag

the outside is quite a sturdy green, so i havent used any interfacing.

the inside is actually a pillow case, a pair i picked up at a thrift/charity shop

its quite a big bag (please excuse the mess ive not been feeling great so my house has suffered)

I still have the other side of the pillow case so i was thinking of making a matching
zipper pouch and a wallet.
then maybe with the other case make another matching set but im not to sure,my concentration span can be a little............................... well its not good thats for sure.

thank you for looking
