1  Hubby's marshamallow fondat cake in Dessert by MillipedeMama on: May 30, 2008 11:46:42 AM
THis is my husband's first time working with marshmallow fondat.  Talk about interesting stuff.  SUPER sticky and sweet.  The cake was for our son's first birthday.  I think it turned out wonderful!!

2  Pink Fairy Cake in Dessert by MillipedeMama on: February 20, 2008 03:36:46 PM
My husband worked all night on this cake.  It is three layers, covered in buttercream icing (dyed pink to match) and with a Barbie Fairy.  He also added tulle, and paper roses to give it a more delicate look.  I am soo proud of him!  Our newly 3 year old daughter was pretty impressed too!

And considering this was transported through a small Alaska snow storm, and into the humidity of a swimming pool facility, up a flight of winding, SLIPPERY steps, to where it sat on the table in the balcony area and held up beautifully!!

and from the side

My husband and I took up knitting over the summer, and he has far surpassed me.  Here is his first attempt at lace, a scarf for my brother's wife.

4  Re: Turtle Hat for new son in Knitting: Completed Projects by MillipedeMama on: August 24, 2007 04:34:59 PM
The hat came from the book 'Itty Bitty Hats' By Susan Anderson.  It was rolled brim hat, but I added ribbing.
I had to change the turtles a bit since I didn't have the right sized hook. I changed the head, feet and tails.  I don't know if thats enough to post what I did, or if I would be violating copyright laws.  I would hate to get in trouble.
Here is a blurry close up so you can kinda see how the turtle came out.

5  Turtle Hat for new son in Knitting: Completed Projects by MillipedeMama on: August 24, 2007 01:11:58 PM
So I tried following a real pattern for a hat.  I think it turned out wonderful!  The only thing I changed is that instead of a rolled brim I added some ribbing.  But my count was off and I ended up with an uneven spot where there is more rib than -ing.  But it fits my 3 month old son and he seems to like it.
The hat itself is made of Blue Sky Alpaca's Organic Cotton (Unbelievably soft!) and the little turtles are crocheted with Caron Simply Soft in Brites.
I now have about 5 people who want the same hat!  But I am off and running on a bonnet type hat for my 2 year old.
YAY for understanding patterns!  And for the designers who make great ones for beginners!

I am going to post this since my husband never would.
This is his second FO, but his first Hat!
He not only did it on circular needles, he then transfered to DPNs, which he had never worked on before.  And TAA DAA!! A hat was born!!
