1  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Re: Yummy Smelling Heat Pads - With TUTORIAL on: November 04, 2010 09:43:58 PM
I hope this isn't a silly question. Do you need to throw these away in time? How many times can you use them.

i really don't think you'd ever have to, unless it ever gets wet, in which case the rice would probably end up cooking & get moldy & whatnot. when you think about it, it'd be just like leaving rice out in a bowl--stale to eat but not doing any harm.

on another note, this is the best idea ever! my feet are always freezing in my bed, i'm making one of these RIGHT NOW! Cheesy also, the mention of earl grey tea made me wonder if instead of essential oils, i could just rip open a nice spicy-smelling chai tea bag and mix it in? i know it'd lose its scent faster, but like i said, i want a yummy-scented warm rice bag nowwww and i don't have oils on hand Wink

everybody loves a design swipe! while in atlanta last week, i stopped at my favorite inspiration store. you guessed it: anthopologie! i call it an inspiration store because hell naw i'm not paying their prices for cotton & paper even if it is the most wonderful magnificent object ever. i just don't have that kind of cash.

anyway, saw this necklace in ballerina pink, sunny yellow & i think grey too. theirs is monochrome: same color ribbon, flowers & rhinestone/jewel center. buuuut i wanted to make mine a LITTLE different ;]

i bought a spool of dark green grosgrain ribbon [$2.75] and a quarter of a yard of grey/brown polyester fabric [$2.25 on sale] BOTH of which i have enough left to make a whole 'nother necklace! i hand sewed everything, the petals to the felt, the black seed beads to the petals. also: word of advice: if you make this, don't use such a slippery fabric. keeping it all layered while trying to sew fast enough to keep it together was ridiculous!

there's not a picture of the back of the necklace on the website, but i saw it in the store. little felt circles which i went ahead and just hot-glued to the ribbon. over-all very simple but time consuming to cut all the flowers & the bead work. here's to hoping it just doesn't look like a lei of some sort!

here's the anthro one:

here's mine!

that's what theirs looked like. my felt circles WERE circles, but once i glued them i just trimmed off a little extra. the original also had two more smaller sized flowers, but i got lazy/ tired of cutting. theirs had a clasp & extra ribbon for aesthetics, but obviously i just left mine ribbon ends to tie. anyway, that's that!

here's the easy tutorial i used for the flowers!

thanks for lookin!

9  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / Re: Sunshine Yellow Oscars Triumph Dress! McCalls M5382 on: May 22, 2008 05:35:10 PM
LOVE the color, LOVE the fabric, & LOVE that it doesn't have the icky trim or straps like the pattern does. yours also looks a bit shorter, too. much better length. congrats on the oscars! :]

i like short prom dresses way better. no offense to anyone, but i think those giant glittery sherbet colored frocks are wayyyy outdated. cute cute.
