2241  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Wall decor for Baby Showers on: July 18, 2006 10:04:15 AM
I didn't get a good picture of these, but notice the baby-themed gift bags hanging on the walls where I usually have pictures hung in my dining room.  These are from the Dollar Tree.  I used two of them after the shower to send home misc. food leftovers and over-flow gifts home with the parents-to-be.  I saved the rest for future baby gifts.

You can do this for birthdays too...just buy birthday bags instead of baby ones!

Thanks...my hubby took the pics and he didn't really get the side view of the glass separating the two plates, but you get the point.

I really love hosting baby showers!  I don't have many close friends, so I have only helped with two of my hubby's cousin's showers so far.  These pics are from the last one (last month).

2243  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Re: Party for a Pre-Teen Boy on: July 18, 2006 09:43:20 AM
Thanks!  I forgot to mention that he got a room makeover for his birthday and the colors in the cakes are from his new decor.  Everyone loved his room, too!  Really cool...I should post pics on the home decorating board sometime cuz of the 'niceness' of our painting!

I took two of the paper plates that we bought for the shower and double-sided-taped it to the bottom of a plain (clear) juice glass then set it in the middle of my platter.  I put homemade cream cheese mints on the top plate and my homemade chocolate truffles on the bottom platters.  It looked nice, I thought!  (I used blue icing for the truffles that had nuts in them! Ha-ha...oh the irony!)

I put the truffles in those little candy cups, of course!

I tinted some fondant, made a big nipple, put it on top of a container from the Dollar Tree, added a bow, cut a slit for sweet $$$ to go into in the side near the top, lined the inside with white tissue paper to look like milk.  It was a hit!  Just be sure to give the fondant like a WEEK to dry!  Or else everyone will feel the need to touch it and squish it.

Thanks.  And nah...not with such a large glass...and it's only a tea light candle.

2247  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Target bags turned candle holder on: July 18, 2006 08:48:40 AM
I know it's been done before, but I crocheted this basket out of Target (plastic) bags and sent it to my Sis O' Bliss.  She added a candle and put it in her bathroom.  If I had known it was going to be used for such a pretty purpose, I would have done a better job on my technique!!!

2248  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Party for a Pre-Teen Boy on: July 18, 2006 08:43:19 AM
Here's what I did for my step-son's 11th birthday party this year.  He got to invite all of his friends from school & church to spend the night with little business card size invitations that I printed out at home and cut out of cardstock.

I made this cake.  It is real fudge icing so it's not perfectly smooth like fondant.  The orbs are bamboo skewers covered with fondant.  I made the white cake petit fours for those who can't eat chocolate.  The disks on those are fondant as well.  The 'Retro Picks' poked into some of them are toothpicks with store-bought snowball pompons glued on.  (A great way to make cheap appetizer picks for any appetizer!)

2249  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Crocheted Baby Bonnet and Poncho (Pic Heavy) on: July 18, 2006 08:28:25 AM
I made this for my neighbor to give at a baby shower for a friend of hers.  The yarn is Moda Dea 'Dream', which is my favorite novelty yarn so far! (Along with some other soft pink baby yarn)

I didn't have a pattern, so I probably couldn't make it exactly the same again if I tried!

2250  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / My Green Bag on: July 18, 2006 07:21:05 AM
I learned how to net (make my own fishnet by hand) a few months back.  I've been making great produce bags out of clearance novelty yarns. This time I knitted a top on it, crocheted the flap and strap and sewed buttons for closures.  These pictures really don't do this bag justice...the colors are very rich and the feel of the bag is great. (first time trying to post pics from photobucket...hope it works!)
