1  Glacier cake with penguins & a jelly lake <3 in Dessert by Bunny of DOOM! on: October 29, 2010 11:34:25 AM
For a work friends birthday  Grin

White choc mud base, stacked brownie glaciers, blueberry jelly lake!

Noone ate it of course- this seems to be my new curse! Its like the 3rd time in a row noone has even cut it and Ive had to throw the whole thing away. It makes me sad inside >_< People use that "too cute to eat" excuse, but man I am SO sick of hearing that! I don't spend days and nights making ridic cakes and giving myself ridiculous baking injuries (my own fault) to just throw them away. *Sigh* I liked it though..

2  Vegan Chocolate Wedding cake & cupcakes! in Dessert by Bunny of DOOM! on: October 02, 2010 08:49:35 AM
My adorable straight edge vegan friends got married yesterday, I made their cake and cupcakes Smiley I was really happy with how they came out, Im not overly confident with fondant, regardless how many times I try. This time I got it on the FOURTH go, hehe!

And look at the adorable topper I bought them! Traditional ceramic, but he girl is pinching the boys bum when you look at it from behind Wink

They loved them, but hardly ANYONE ate any, that always seems to happen to me!

3  MUSTACHE CAKES! Yes, really. in Dessert by Bunny of DOOM! on: September 30, 2010 06:03:48 AM
It was my awesome friends 21st the other week- he has an epic beard and twirly mustache that he waxes into shape- it's probably his best feature, so for his birthday cakes?

Best of all, they are vegan!

4  Rainbow cake, Breakfast cupcake & Little Green Men cupcakes! in Dessert by Bunny of DOOM! on: September 30, 2010 05:54:13 AM
It was my besties birthday on Monday, and being the spoilt brat he is, I decided he needed LOTS of birthday cakes. We had a lovely big picnic with our friend and everyone brought great stuff along. I was, of course, in charge of desserts!

I started the day first up with leaving a single cupcake outside his house in the morning. I wrapped it in a little clear cube & tied a single helium balloon to it, then texted him that his birthday breakfast awaited him outside!

For entrees at the picnic, I made him some Little Green Men cupcakes!

And for the big finale, I tried to do a How to Train your Dragon cake. I wasn't happy with how Toothless came out, and come 10pm I decided I had better give up and do something else. I didn't have any fondant left so the first thing that came to mind was a rainbow layer cake! I had been wanting to try one for a while, so why not!

My lovely husband, showcasing the massively tall cake!

I used a standard butter cake recipe, and buttercream icing. And it was diviiinnneee!

5  Re: The Great Owl Swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Bunny of DOOM! on: August 16, 2010 03:52:07 AM
Here's a few pics I took before sending Raven's stuff  Grin

Her kit: I included glass beads, a big roll of fabric strips for quilting, a wooden bangle for you to decorate yourself, a little wooden owl button & a little metal vintage sewing machine button.

A bag! She said she liked bags but I am horrible at sewing so I bought this plain canvas bag & decorated it with purty owls Smiley

I Made a card insert for this clear-covered notebook, but cutting and layering different paper shapes. Sorry it was a bit wonky Raven, I had to open all the spiral binding to put my page in and it wouldn't bend back to shape very nicely  Angry

A lasercut mobile ('scuse the fingerprints!) It isn't perfect, I'm very new to lasercut & design so there is a few flaws, but I was pretty happy with it overall.

And some lasercut bits and bobs- I was going to turn the centre one into a necklace, it was based on one of Raven's wist, but I substituted the bird for an owl. The other two I had planned to attach brooch back too, but I was running low on craft supplies & figured since Raven enjoys jewellery making I would just send her the bits to mess about with.

I also included a card that I drew an owl onto, but I don't have any pictures. Hope you liked it all Raven!  Kiss

After a tiring day I got home feeling a little bummed and sat down to find my parcel had arrived & my lovely husband had left it by the couch for me!  Grin

I got an owly-faced satchel bag! It's so well made, it has pockets inside & everything- and it's the perfect size for my laptop! And the pouch? That matches the bags lining!
Also some lovely grey wool- and a pattern for a crochet owl! I was pretty excited because I have been wanting to try Amigurumi for agggges, and some pretty floral fabric in my favourite colours!
Ravenztarot also included a booklet of sewing patterns- I want to start learning to slow clothes & it has some really pretty and simple looking ideas  Grin

Thank you sooo much Raven, I love everything!

7  A very Wu-Tang Wedding/Birthday. in Dessert by Bunny of DOOM! on: July 31, 2010 08:28:30 AM
Ok, so this is kind of an in-joke, but my manager, who's name is Portia, is completely in love with RZA, ex-Wu-Tang member. Like, to the point where we all call her PZA.

A few months back she mentioned in a conversation "If I was ever gonna get married now it would have to be to RZA!" I instantly decided for her upcoming birthday that we would make her a wedding cake for her & RZA's make-believe nuptials.

And so we did..I enlisted the help of my work baking buddy, he made the cakes and helped cover them, I designed & decorated it and make the toppers!

And before I post pics, yes, I am quite aware it looks nothing like RZA..he was tough to capture Roll Eyes

Note the gold Wu-Tang symbols which went all the way around the cake  Cheesy

It looks little, maybe because the toppers were so big- but it was actually pretty huge- it took 3 days for everyone at my work to get through- and we usually polish stuff off within the hour!

The fondant wasn't perfect- but I'm trying to improve that and get a bit of practice in- Ive got a few wedding cakes to make for friends later in the year. Anyone have any tips for smooth fondant? The part I have the most trouble with is it sticking to my rolling pin or falling apart and tearing when I lift it to put over the cake, gah!

Anyway, it was fun to make- and her reaction was priceless- it was a mixture of laughter and "OHMYGOD!" And she got what it was straight away. She texted pictures to her sister & got me to email her my photos, and said it was the most thoughtful present she's ever gotten, so that was lovely to hear, and made it totally worth it!   Grin

8  Re: International Snack Swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Bunny of DOOM! on: July 21, 2010 12:07:51 AM
GUYS!!!! I collected my package! I had to resist the urge to open it while we wandered around doing our shopping, which was near impossible as I could smell the peanut buttery goodness wafting through the cardboard! I kept picking at the tape until my husband told me off..hehe! Just got home, grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed at it like an ADD 7 year old who had too much red cordial.

Like seriously the best thing hands down I've ever recieved in the mail, and I get a LOT of crap mailed to me! I love you so much LanaC  Cheesy

I scored:

*Super cute little pouches, which are fabric covered ziplock bags! What a clever idea, when I opened it and saw the logo inside I was like WOOAHH! And they have little bunnies of doom on them, hehe!
*(Not shown, cos they're in one of the pouches) Nutter Butter biscuits! First thing I chomped down on, and they are SO good!
*Strawberry pop tarts *dies*
*A whole container of mini peanut butter cups *drool*
*A whole container of Rolos, which we do get here but they are TOTALLY different! I had heard they were so I was excited to try them..ours are just gooey caramel ooze inside, and the chocolate isn't very nice, these were YUM and the inside is a chewy toffee caramel!
*2x 3 Musketeers bars, which are like a Milky Way here, but they are a lot lighter, me & my hubby split one and our teeth sunk straight through, yum!
*A whole bunch of pixie sticks, I've been wanting to try these ever since I heard them referred to as "crack for children"..hehe
*Little fizzy candies in mini soda cans! We have similar things here but they are gross. These=GREAT!
*Watermelon pop rocks! We get "magic rocks" and they are just the one flavour, pretty amped to eat the real thing!
*A massive bag of Reese's pieces! I've tried these before but only seen teensy bags at the international candy stores here, and I LOVE them so I was pretty excited!
*The biggest bag of Peanut Butter MnM's Ive ever seen in my life! I can't believe they make bags that big! Our biggest "family share packs" of MnMs is maybe half the size! And these are SO good! I wish they would sell them here already..
*A whole box of Twinkies!!! My husband was really excited cos they say "Hostess Twinkies" on the box, he was like "HOSTESS! LIKE THE ONES IN MOVIES!" Hahaha! Cannot wait to try them!
*And I saved the best til almost last, a box of PEANUT BUTTER CAP'N' CRUNCH! I can see by looking at these that I'm going to love them, I wish I wasn't so full right now! They can be my dinner tonight.
*Maybe my favourite item, she also included a shot glass from texas, it's SO cute! I don't drink but I love kitschy souvenir stuff, and this is amazing! It's shaped like a gun and says "Take your best shot in Texas" - I'm thinking of planting a tiny cactus in it  Smiley

I'm such a spoilt brat! Thanks again LanaC, coolest swap partner evvver  Cool
I'm off to eat too much junk food! <3

9  Dinosaur Cookies & Cakes! in Dessert by Bunny of DOOM! on: July 10, 2010 08:45:42 AM
A friend from work is leaving for another state, so what better reason to throw a..errrr..dinosaur party!

So we watched The Land Before Time & all the Jurassic Park movies, and ate these!

My first attempt at making sugar cookies (They're not big in Aus like they are in the US), they're not perfect, and I overcooked them a little and had to compensate by drowning them in icing, but they were cute and tasty enough!

Pretty colourful cupcakes! Note the teeny green T-rex sprinkles!
