1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re:tried glass bottle cutters, anyone? on: April 04, 2004 09:55:28 PM
Hmm.  My husband suggested using heated (ie glowing hot) wire.  Having just split the wine bottles in question, we decided not to give it a go (well, we decided not to give it a go after discovering that we didn't have any wire in the house), and upon further sober reflection, it seems like a pretty wacky idea.  Anyone out there tried this method?

And it seems pretty easy. . . . I like the idea of giving them as gifts esp. to non-knitters and making up a little how-to kit (w/ simple instructions and some practice yarn). It's cheap and very thoughtful. . . but I'm just wondering if it's actually pleasant to knit with these kinds of needles. I like bamboo needles, but I think I'm in the minority because I actually prefer metal needles. Anyone got any experience with this?

I prefer slick metal needles, too, but for teaching someone to knit, you might have more luck using something a little "sticky," so that beginners won't lose stitches as easily...
