1  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Cooking for Cancer on: September 10, 2013 03:30:01 PM
My Dad was recently diagnosed with brain cancer that spread from the lung cancer he didn't know he had.  They want to start him with radiation therapy to shrink the tumor in his brain before they do anything to treat the lung cancer.

Do you have any suggestions for easy meals that will be good for him?  I know we need to make sure he gets enough protein/calories but other than that I don't know what to fix.

2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Flame Princess on: November 02, 2012 10:36:17 AM
My daughter has fallen in love with Adventure Time.  She was allowed to dress up for work and the first thing she thought of doing was the Flame Princess.

She had to do modifications to the dress to allow her to move freely at work.  She is a server at a dine-in movie theater.  This requires a lot of bending and crouching.  A long skirt would not of worked.  She also did her own hair and make-up.

The last photo is a action shot with the Bubblegum Princess and Finn.

(If someone can help me get the pictures to actually show up that would be great!)
3  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Birthday Monster on: May 29, 2012 11:02:37 AM
My daughter designed this monster from the machine embroidery designs I got from Urban Threads.  She didn't realized that I was going to make it for her for her birthday!

Just goes to show that you are never too old for a stuffed monster!
4  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Completed Projects / Don't Blink on: April 30, 2012 11:25:15 AM
I have been a long-time Dr Who fan and have recently gotten my sweetie hooked.  He loves the Weeping Angels so I decided to make an apron for him (he is a chef).

I combined an applique TARDIS pattern with some angel wings.
5  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Discussion and Questions / Applique question on: October 03, 2011 10:41:33 AM
I just did my first machine embroidered applique and while I am pleased with how it turned out, I did notice a problem.

I used a fat quarter (quilter's cotton) because it was the right color.  The outline stitch has basically perforated the material so much that I can peel the material off.

Is this because of the material I used?  If so, what is the best kind of material to use?
6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / iPod painting? on: January 27, 2008 07:56:38 PM
My daughter just bought an iPod classic in silver.  Not much choice in color: black or silver.  Her favorite color is green.  Has anyone ever painted an iPod?  Any suggestions for what would be appropriate to use?
7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Lime Green/Owl Laptop Case on: December 16, 2007 01:42:26 PM
My daughter just bought a laptop and she was looking for a cool case to carry it around in.  Of course, when you have a specific idea you cannot find anything that even remotely resembles it.  All she could find were dull boring black ordinary cases.  That would just not do!

I decided to make her one as a Christmas present.  Now...her favorite color is green and she loves owls.  So I came up with this:

I still need to put a few finishing touches.  I want to put eyes on the owl but I haven't found just the right buttons yet.  But I wanted to go ahead and post it here before I wrapped it up to put under the tree.
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Too Cool - Skull Illusion Scarf on: September 21, 2007 01:31:57 PM

This is just amazing!  I wish that I could knit well enough to do this.
9  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Tattoo question on: May 29, 2007 04:03:21 PM
My darling daughter (who I just want to string up by her toes right now) went out and got herself a tattoo for her birthday.  Now...I don't have a problem with tattoos.  I have even thought about getting one for myself.  What I have a problem with is the fact that she got it on the back of her hand, kind of by the thumb area.

My question is how are some ways for her to cover this up when she needs to interact with the real world?  She is planning on becoming a costumer in either the film or theater fields so she feels like it will be no big deal.
10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Key chain and/or bracelets??? on: March 06, 2007 11:04:21 AM
Suggestions or ideas requested please.

My daughter's school is doing "The Imaginary Invalid" by Moliere for UIL One-Act Play competion this year.  Traditionally, one or more of the parents come up with some kind of good luck gift for each member of the cast & crew.  I am trying to come up with an idea of what to make for this year.  I have found some syringe charms and tiny glass bottles (I thought I could fill them with something to represent medicine).

Should I do all key chains or key chains for the boys and bracelets for the girls?  Or something else?

My first thought was to make lacey handkerchiefs with iron-ons giving details about the show.  My daughter didn't like that idea.  I got "THE LOOK" from her.
